The Ngo boat racing festival on the Nhieu Loc - Thi Nghe canal has become a familiar event for Ho Chi Minh City residents in recent years. Since 2023, the festival has been held annually.
Following the success of the previous two times, the Department of Culture and Sports proposed and was approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to coordinate with Xuan Hoa ward to organize the "Xuan Hoa Open Cup Ngo Boat Racing Festival 2025" with the theme "Spreading identity, connecting the community".
Especially from this year, the event is officially honored to be included in the series of activities of the annual Ho Chi Minh City River Festival.
The festival aims to honor and promote the unique river lifestyle, heritage and culture of Ho Chi Minh City and the Southern region.
This year's race will take place on Sunday, November 30, from Chantarangsay Pagoda to Cong Ly Bridge (in Xuan Hoa Ward and Nhieu Loc Ward).
Mr. Nguyen Hung Hau - Chairman of Xuan Hoa Ward People's Committee, said: "This year's festival attracts the participation of 18 teams from provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta with a tradition of Ngo boat racing.
The tournament will apply an electronic timing system and use flycam equipment to monitor and record the race track, to ensure accuracy and enhance the audience experience," said Mr. Hau.
Next to the boat race is the Khmer cultural and culinary space at the Chantarangsay Pagoda area. The activity introduces typical dishes such as noodle soup, round cakes, and palm sweet soup. Besides, there are traditional art performances such as Apsara dance and Robam drama.
In addition, people can join tours of Nhieu Loc - Thi Nghe canal by boat.
