Defending champion France shares determination to win at DIFF 2024

Ahead of the opening night of DIFF 2024 taking place on the evening of June 8, the defending champion ArtEventia (France) and the host team Da Nang (Vietnam) shared their "ambitions" at the competition.

In just a few days, the opening night of the 12th season of DIFF will officially take place amid great anticipation and expectation from visitors around the world . The first competition night, themed “Cultural Essence”, will be the clash between the reigning DIFF 2023 champion - ArtEventia from France and the host team Da Nang - representing Vietnam - two teams that are receiving a lot of attention for their first explosive performances.

Mr. Edouard Jean Guillaume Gregoire - Artistic Director of ArtEventia and Mr. Le Khac Hung - Captain of Da Nang team shared interesting things before the opening night.

Opening the DIFF 2024 season, surely the two teams are feeling a lot of emotions right now. Could you please share with the audience who are following the festival your feelings and how the preparations for the opening night have been going so far?

Mr. Le Khac Hung (Vietnam) : Currently, the preparations of the Da Nang team (Vietnam) have basically been completed to be ready to perform on the opening day of June 8. The first performance always attracts the attention of a large audience and tourists, so our feelings at this time are very excited and expectant, but also mixed with a little nervousness and a little worry.

However, this will be a source of motivation for our team to strive to perfect our performance, to bring the audience the most interesting surprises on the opening night.

Mr. Edouard Jean Guillaume Gregoire (France): We are also quite worried and nervous. However, we are preparing the fireworks designs and new songs very carefully to be ready for the competition night.

Vietnam is a team that we also rate very highly. We are very happy to be back this time and will try our best to bring the audience the best and most unique performances.

This year, the theme that the Organizing Committee has set for the opening night is “Cultural Essence”. How will the teams demonstrate this theme in their fireworks display? Can the teams reveal a little about the techniques, number of fireworks, and range of their performance?

Mr. Le Khac Hung (Vietnam): Based on the theme “Cultural Essence”, we took the idea for the opening night as “Sky Dance” to honor the culture and beautiful scenery of Vietnam, as an invitation for tourists to come to the beautiful coastal city of Da Nang in particular and Vietnam in general. We have researched very carefully to bring a difference to our performance.

This year, the Da Nang team prepared up to 4,700 fireworks.

This year, we have done thorough research on the theme as well as the music . The number of fireworks prepared is about 4,700 with many effects, including many high-altitude fireworks. The script has 3 chapters: Thien Dang - Nhan Hoa - Vuong Quoc and will last 21 minutes and 45 seconds.

Mr. Edouard Jean Guillaume Gregoire (France): We really like this theme. This is a theme that carries the cultural identity of Vietnam in particular and Asia in general. With the main theme of the competition night, we bring a fireworks scenario called “Dance of the Dragon”. A scenario that carries the breath of the dragon, representing the year of the dragon, will be really interesting.

We will be using a lot of new fireworks techniques. I can't share them all here so please come to the opening night to witness this special performance.

A question specifically for the team that has many years of experience participating in DIFF, the Da Nang team. What do you think about the organization of DIFF 2024 compared to 2023?

Mr. Le Khac Hung (Vietnam): Through each year of participation, we feel that the organization is increasingly professional, especially the large-scale investment in stages, equipment and technology, and especially the support that the organizers give to the teams during their participation in DIFF 2024.

With the "home field" advantage and experience from previous DIFF seasons, how will the team compete differently against the reigning champion ArtEventia of France? What secrets or weapons can the team reveal to compete with the French team on this opening night?

Mr. Le Khac Hung (Vietnam): With the home field advantage as well as experience gained from previous seasons and a deep understanding of the culture of the Vietnamese people, we believe we will create differences in the performance combining traditional culture and modernity to bring the best quality performance.

Thorough preparation and a relentless spirit of creativity are the factors that give us the confidence to compete with the reigning champion ArtEventia.

Regarding the weapon to compete with the French team next Saturday night, I would like to keep this secret to create a surprise for the audience.

Does the French team expect another victory at DIFF 2024? What makes the team keep returning to DIFF and Da Nang? To win, do you have any plans to create anything special compared to last year?

The French team brings high determination to win to DIFF 2024.

Mr. Edouard Jean Guillaume Gregoire (France): We came back here to do that, to win. We love Vietnam very much and will come back here for many more years.

What places did the team visit in Da Nang last year? And where do you want to go this year?

Mr. Edouard Jean Guillaume Gregoire (France): We want to visit many places in Da Nang but have little time. After the opening night, we plan to go to Hoi An on Sunday and try to experience the wonderful scenery there.
