The play was staged by People's Artist Trieu Trung Kien from part 3, From Viet Bac to Hanoi , in the historical novel series "Nuon non van dam" by writer Nguyen The Ky.
From Viet Bac to Hanoi will premiere on the evening of August 11 and 12 at the Hanoi Opera House, celebrating the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2 (1945 - 2025).
Historical stories that are rarely remembered
On August 7, information about the play, director Trieu Trung Kien said that From Viet Bac to Hanoi depicts the image of Nguyen Ai Quoc - Ho Chi Minh from the time he returned to the Fatherland in 1941, directly leading the Vietnamese revolution to victory, gaining independence and freedom for the nation.
Basically faithful to the main content of the novel series "Nuon non van dam" , especially volume 3 "Tu Viet Bac ve Ha Noi" , director Trieu Trung Kien chose the chronicle narrative style of the novel, proactively creating a story line in the play that flows in linear time order.
The realistic setting of the play is compressed from 1941 to 1945, where the Vietnamese revolution, although seemingly quiet on the surface, is seething inside, waiting for the opportunity to erupt into a big storm.
Through this play, viewers learn about many historical stories that are rarely mentioned, such as the affection of the Chinese people for Ho Chi Minh and his comrades; the mysterious and important American figures present in China...

A familiar image of Uncle Ho
Writer Nguyen The Ky - author of the novel series "Nuoc non van dam" assessed that the production crew of this play worked very hard to recreate Uncle Ho's trips to China.
The play has many characters, with complex, intertwined relationships, spanning a vast space from within the country to abroad, but director Trieu Trung Kien skillfully handled it with symbolic and conventional theatrical techniques.
Director Trieu Trung Kien said a new point of the play is that it has escaped the avoidance of the past when it was believed that in the theater stage, the role of the leader "only speaks, only dialogues but cannot/should not sing".
In the play From Viet Bac to Hanoi , the character Nguyen Ai Quoc - Ho Chi Minh still sings like the other characters.
This also makes the main character's image closer to the other characters and to the audience coming to the play.
Artist Van Thuan was chosen to play the role of President Ho Chi Minh. Choosing an actor to play President Ho Chi Minh was quite difficult and careful, just like other stage and film works about Uncle Ho.
The show features a talented crew: musician Trong Dai composed the theme song From Viet Bac to Hanoi and is also in charge of the music for the show, and People's Artist Doan Bang designed the stage.
Director Trieu Trung Kien said that he, along with playwright Hoang Song Viet and artists from the Vietnam Cai Luong Theater (now the Vietnam National Traditional Theater), planned to adapt and stage five stage plays from five parts of the historical novel The Land of Ten Thousand Miles.
Before the play From Viet Bac to Hanoi, in 2022, the theater launched the play Debt to the Country from part 1 of the novel series , performed in many provinces and cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and many provinces and cities across the country with over 100 performances on the wooden floor and on television and radio so far.
Part 2 is called " Drifting on the Four Seas" is in the planning stages.
