Recently, billionaire Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and owner of the X platform, has once again sparked a global controversy after sharing his views on the definition of womanhood on his personal X social media account.
Specifically, Musk asserted that being a woman is determined purely by biology, particularly the presence of a uterus. "If you have a uterus, you are a woman. If not, then you are not," he wrote on X.
This post immediately went viral, garnering over 48.5 million views and hundreds of thousands of interactions in just a few hours, sparking heated debates from the international online community.
On the supportive side, many argue that the biological definition is self-evident and should remain the foundation for discussions about gender.
One commenter wrote, "Unbelievable to live in an era where even the obvious needs to be stated," and billionaire Elon Musk responded succinctly, "Indeed."
Some others sarcastically commented that "basic biology" was being challenged by those considered educated, reflecting a "strange" moment in modern history.
However, conversely, many opinions have strongly refuted this, arguing that Musk's statement is biologically inaccurate.
They cite MRKH syndrome (Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser) – a rare condition that causes women to be born without or with an underdeveloped uterus – to argue that women cannot be defined solely by a single biological organ.

Alongside the wave of harsh criticism from the public, the electric vehicle (EV) industry is concerned that CEO Elon Musk's recent statements about the definition of woman will negatively impact Tesla's already sluggish business.
Experts believe that the billionaire's controversial stance risks pushing female customers away from the brand, thereby exacerbating the existing gender gap in the electric vehicle market.
According to market research firms, the gender gap in the electric vehicle market has been a significant concern. In 2024, Escalante reported that 71% of EV owners and 74% of buyers were male. This contrasts sharply with the overall US automotive market, where women account for the majority of direct purchases (around 62%).
Recent data from Hedges & Company shows that Tesla's sales are following the general trend of the EV market: "Overall, 74% of Tesla owners are male."
Experts believe that Musk's controversial actions and statements on the X platform, including his involvement with offensive deepfake images of singer Taylor Swift, have contributed to driving female customers away from the brand.
Analysts suggest that electric vehicle manufacturers need to adjust their marketing strategies to suit the needs of the female-dominated mass market in order to bridge the gender gap and boost sales.
