Estevao continues to shine. |
In the early morning of November 26, Chelsea crushed Barcelona 3-0 in the 5th round of the Champions League qualifying round. Estevao was the highlight with a decisive shot from a tight angle in the 55th minute, making the roof of the net of the reigning Spanish champions, raising the score to 2-0.
With this goal, Estevao became the third teenager to score in all three first appearances in Europe's most prestigious tournament, after Kylian Mbappe (18 years 113 days) and Erling Haaland (19 years 107 days).
The young Brazilian talent also became the first player for "The Blues" to score in three consecutive Champions League matches since Willian did this in November 2015.
It would be a decade before Chelsea had a player do it again. And this time it was a young talent who wasn't even 19 yet (his 19th birthday is next April).
The goal against Barca was a masterpiece when Estevao used his speed and personal technique to completely eliminate the opposing defender before unleashing a powerful shot from a tight angle, tearing the opponent's net.
Former Chelsea legend Pat Nevin couldn't hide his excitement on TV: "Start believing the hype! Estevao Willian is a special talent. The way he got past the first defender, leaving the opponent standing like a statue with his super-fast feet and technique. The angle of the shot after that was extremely difficult, but he just fired a cannon into the net. He will become an outstanding player, it's just a matter of time."
From Palmeiras to Stamford Bridge in just a few months in the summer of 2025, Estevao is proving that the huge expectations placed on him were completely justified. The golden boy of Brazil is taking over the Champions League with his magical feet.
