Reporting at the working session with the National Assembly Standing Committee's Supervisory Delegation on the afternoon of July 26, Mr. Dang Hoang An, the new Chairman of EVN's Board of Directors, said that the total installed capacity of power sources nationwide to date is 79,364MW. Of which, the power sources owned by EVN are 11,974MW, accounting for only 15.1% of the total installed capacity of the entire system. The power generation corporations within EVN (EVNGENCO) account for 22.6% (17,884MW).
The rest belongs to TKV, PVN, BOT investors and other investors.
During the 2016-2020 period, EVN's total commercial electricity output reached 953.5 billion kWh, equal to 98.6% of the 5-year plan, with an average growth of 8.59%/year. In 2021-2022, due to continued impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, commercial electricity increased by an average of 5.77%/year.
In the first 6 months of 2023, commercial electricity output reached 118.72 billion kWh, up 1.6% over the same period in 2022.
Concluding the working session, Mr. Nguyen Duc Hai, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly , Head of the Supervisory Delegation, said that the Supervisory Delegation recognized that EVN and related units have made many efforts in electricity production, transmission, distribution; command and operation of the power system; import and export of electricity; investment and management of investment capital for power projects; management, operation, repair, maintenance, automation of equipment in the power system, etc.
However, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai requested EVN to find solutions to overcome the limitations and shortcomings pointed out by agencies and sectors; at the same time, focus on solutions to ensure adequate electricity supply in 2024-2025 and the following years; accelerate the process of restructuring, innovation and improving the operational efficiency of EVN in accordance with the policy in Resolution 55-NQ/TW of the Politburo .
At the same time, EVN needs to continue to make efforts to remove difficulties and obstacles, speed up the progress of power source and grid projects; strengthen coordination with the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group, the Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group, localities and relevant agencies in the process of implementing energy projects...
Previously, at the first half-year review conference of the Industry and Trade sector, EVN General Director Tran Dinh Nhan said that the balance of supply and demand showed that the electricity supply situation in the coming period still faces many difficulties, especially in 2024-2025, in the Northern region.
In order to contribute to ensuring electricity supply in the coming time, EVN will propose solutions to the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Prime Minister.
In the immediate future, in addition to solutions for operating the power system, ensuring sufficient fuel for power generation, ensuring the availability of generators, it is necessary to accelerate approved projects, have mechanisms to rapidly develop LNG power projects, and quickly supplement power sources for the Northern region such as concentrated solar power, self-produced and self-consumed rooftop solar power, onshore wind power and offshore wind power...
On EVN's side, it will focus on implementing the 500kV line 3 from the Central and Southern regions to the North (if these projects are not assigned by competent authorities to other units as investors) and is determined to complete the project by May 2025.
