On the afternoon of June 15, 2023, Mr. Le Van Trang - Chairman of the Board of Members of Southern Power Corporation (EVNSPC) and the working delegation had a direct working session with the Can Tho City Party Committee on the situation of electricity supply and use.

Accordingly, in the past time, Can Tho City Electricity Company has ensured electricity supply to serve the city's socio-economic development and people's daily needs, with a fairly high margin compared to the current secondary demand of only about 55% of the total installed capacity of 10 110kV transformer stations in the area, which is 873MVA.

The growth rate of commercial electricity in Can Tho City in the 2016-2020 period increased by an average of 6.13%/year (lower than the approved plan of 9.4%/year), commercial electricity in 2022 reached nearly 2.8 billion kWh, a positive growth of 9.99% compared to 2021 (realized 2.512 billion kWh).

In the first 5 months of 2023 alone, commercial electricity reached nearly 1.2 billion kWh, up 7.8% over the same period in 2022 (realizing 1.109 billion kWh). Also in the first 5 months of 2023, Can Tho Electricity Company developed 2,851 more customers, bringing the total number of customers managed by May 31, 2023 to 408,482 customers. Of which, 383,659 were for domestic use and 24,823 were for non-domestic use. To date, all 83/83 communes, wards and towns of the City have national grid electricity, reaching a rate of 100%.

Regarding investment, EVNSPC is currently implementing 5 110kV power grid projects with a total investment of over 500 billion VND. EVNSPC plans to implement 4 more projects in Can Tho City in 2025 with a total investment of over 620 billion VND.

During the implementation of power projects, EVNSPC received enthusiastic support from local authorities and the consensus and support of local households. However, the implementation of investment still encountered some minor difficulties and problems in compensation and site clearance, causing the progress of many projects to drag on for many years, greatly affecting the effectiveness of investment implementation, as well as the supply of electricity to the city.

Overview of the working session.

In order to soon complete the construction and put the project into operation on schedule, EVNSPC hopes that the leaders of Can Tho City will pay attention, support, and promptly direct relevant local departments and branches to help remove obstacles, helping EVNSPC ensure electricity supply in the province. At the same time, it is proposed to include the list of 220kV-110kV projects invested by the electricity sector in the area in the list of key projects of the city to focus on directing implementation, especially in site clearance.

Chairman of the Board of Directors Le Van Trang also proposed that Can Tho City include the list of projects "Construction of the 110kV Tra Noc - Binh Thuy transmission line and Installation of T2 - 63MVA transformer at the 110/22kV Binh Thuy transformer station" and "Phase division of the 110kV O Mon - Song Hau transmission line - connection point of the 220kV Sa Dec station" in the component of the power supply infrastructure development plan of the Can Tho City Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, and submit it to the Prime Minister for approval in 2023 as a basis for the electricity industry to implement the investment.

Concluding the meeting, Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee Nguyen Van Hieu highly appreciated EVNSPC for its efforts to invest in timely power sources and power grid systems to ensure the economic and social development of the City. Mr. Hieu also thanked the electricity industry for its attention to the development of the Can Tho City power grid. For the investment in the construction of the power grid up to 2025, EVNSPC has prioritized preparing capital of up to nearly 1,200 billion VND for the City.

Regarding the recommendations of the Southern Power Corporation, Can Tho City will direct departments and branches to focus on supporting, promptly clearing the ground, and reclaiming land for the power grid development project, while closely coordinating with the Corporation to speed up the progress of the projects.

Can Tho City is highly urbanized, the space for industrial development, trade and services after integrating the planning until 2050 is very large. The demand for energy in the near future is still very large. Therefore, the Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee hopes that the Southern Power Corporation will continue to pay more attention to investing in developing the power grid infrastructure system and power grid transmission in the coming time.
