F-16s will not be appearing in Ukraine anytime soon.

In his latest statement, Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev assessed that Ukraine had made a mistake in rejecting Russian President Vladimir Putin's proposal for negotiations.

“They rejected everything. This was stated at the conference held in Switzerland. And it means that every proposal will be rejected immediately. The negotiation process will go back to square one. It’s pointless. Things will only get worse,” Dmitry Medvedev declared.

He emphasized that the Kiev authorities could still accept the Russian President's proposal and try to achieve peace. If Ukraine rejects Moscow's proposal, military operations by the Russian Federation Armed Forces will continue.

"And it remains difficult to say where the boundaries of the security zone that our President has spoken of will end. It is possible that all of this will not be beneficial to the current Ukrainian authorities," the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council emphasized.

The Russian president's proposal is to withdraw Ukrainian troops from newly acquired Russian territories.

Russian President Vladimir Putin called Ukraine's neutrality and denuclearization a prerequisite for peace talks with Kyiv. In addition, Ukraine must abandon its intention to join NATO and withdraw its troops from the four regions annexed by Russia.

The Russian president emphasized that if Kyiv and the West reject the new peace proposal, the conditions will be different. Vladimir Putin stated that the essence of Russia's peace proposal is not to freeze the conflict but to completely end it. The Russian leader explained that Moscow is ready to begin negotiations "even tomorrow" if Kyiv agrees to the conditions.

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is discussing a peace initiative.

According to the Chairman of the Russian State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, deputies of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada are discussing peace initiatives to resolve the conflict. "According to our information through the parliamentary channel, some deputies of the Verkhovna Rada have already begun working on this," Volodin stated.

A Russian lawmaker noted that the more Ukrainian politicians hope for help from the US and the European Union, the more citizens they will lose.

According to Ukrainian political scientist Konstantin Bondarenko, while the Kiev government refuses to negotiate with Moscow, Russia is increasingly gaining control of Ukrainian territory.

“Russia is now doing everything it can to take a clear step, control new areas, and then offer a new version of peace on Russian terms. They don’t negotiate, they don’t agree to the terms, which means they take another step and Ukraine will continue to lose,” said Konstantin Bondarenko, pointing out that such a strategy is very effective.

He advised Ukraine to listen to the Russian President's proposal.

Ralf Schellhammer, a columnist for the British news site UnHerd, believes that Kyiv should agree to a ceasefire. If it accepts Moscow's initiative, Ukraine will have a chance to prosper, and the Russian proposal seems more positive than further escalating the conflict and threatening nuclear war.

Meanwhile, Mikhail Podolyak, an advisor to the Ukrainian President's Office, stated that Kyiv has not yet accepted the peace proposal put forward by the Russian President. According to Ukraine, accepting Russia's conditions would force Kyiv to relinquish its sovereignty and maintain its non-aligned status, leaving Ukraine defenseless.

F-16s are not expected to appear in Ukraine anytime soon.

Retired Russian Army Colonel Viktor Litovkin, a military expert, told Lenta.ru that American F-16 fighter jets are unlikely to appear in Ukraine anytime soon. He explained that to do so, Ukraine would need to prepare airfields, which would certainly become targets for the Russian military. Furthermore, training personnel would also be a difficult task.

“Airports with control towers and radar stations must be created. They also need technical and operational stations to maintain aircraft before and after takeoff. Experts fluent in military-grade English should work there because all instructions, drawings, and spare parts notes are in English,” explained expert Viktor Litovkin.

According to him, we need about 40-50 such specialists. Like pilots, they need intensive training.

A Russian military expert stated: “Many airfields have been destroyed, perhaps including those that were supposed to receive F-16s. If they deploy fighter jets on Polish or Romanian territory, they will become targets for our missiles. Therefore, the conditions for supplying F-16s to Ukraine will not appear anytime soon.”

Earlier, Alexandra Ustinova, Vice Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, stated that the US was deliberately delaying the training of Ukrainian pilots to fly US F-16 fighter jets.

Ukrainian veteran applies for Russian citizenship.

Maxim Likhachev, a Ukrainian tank soldier in the Ukrainian Armed Forces who stole a T-64 tank as part of his surrender, has applied for Russian citizenship.

According to sources in Donetsk cited by the TASS news agency, the regional civilian administration will issue new passports for AFU veterans within a few weeks.

Earlier reports indicated that former soldier Maxim Likhachev had returned to his hometown of Svatovo. There, he planned to find a job, live a peaceful life, and work on the farm with his mother.

Ukrainian soldier Maxim Likhachev stole a Ukrainian T-64 tank and surrendered to the Russian army in May 2024. He served in the 110th Mechanized Brigade of the AFU after receiving training in Poland in 2022.
