Ferrari’s one-off personalization program, Special Projects, has just unveiled its latest creation, the SC40, a supercar crafted for a very special customer. Unveiled in Maranello, Italy, the SC40 is not only a high-performance car, but also a tribute to one of the brand’s greatest icons – the Ferrari F40. Based on the Ferrari 296 GTB, the SC40 is a fusion of heritage and modern technology.

Reviving the F40 legacy on a modern platform
Under the direction of Design Director Flavio Manzoni and the team at the Ferrari Styling Centre, the SC40 successfully recaptures the spirit of the F40 without mechanically copying it. The body has classic proportions, with a long, low front end, while the shortened rear gives it a distinctive, aggressive look. The entire car is finished in an exclusive white paint scheme called Bianco SC40.

F40-inspired details are present throughout the design. The most prominent is the large, fixed rear wing, embossed with the SC40 logo. The engine cover is also made from transparent Lexan, an unmistakable feature of the previous model. On the sides, the classic NACA-style air intakes are both aerodynamically optimized and an iconic detail.

Carbon-Kevlar fiber, known for its strength and ultra-light weight, is used extensively throughout the bodywork, emphasizing the performance-optimized philosophy that made the F40 famous.
Minimalist and racing cockpit
Step inside, and the Ferrari SC40 continues to showcase the fusion of past and present. The overall layout of the cockpit is retained from the Ferrari 296 GTB, including the 16-inch digital instrument panel and 8.8-inch secondary screen for the passenger. However, the materials have been completely customized to create a unique space.

The racing seats are covered in Jacquard red fabric, reminiscent of classic racing cars. Other surfaces such as the dashboard, center armrest and door panels are covered in Charcoal Alcantara. Similar to the exterior, carbon-Kevlar continues to be used on the steering wheel, gearshift paddles, air-conditioning vents and even the floor, giving the feeling of a real racing car.

Power from the Hybrid Era
Ferrari hasn't released detailed performance specs for the SC40, but it has confirmed that it retains the mid-engine, rear-wheel drive, and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain from the 296 GTB. This means the SC40 will likely continue to be powered by a 663-horsepower, twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 paired with a 167-horsepower electric motor.
This system delivers a total maximum output of up to 830 horsepower, promising top acceleration and performance, worthy of a unique product from Maranello.
