Nghe An market on October 20: Miniature potted plants, phalaenopsis orchids, natural cosmetics "reign"

These days, the streets in Nghe An are filled with the colors of flowers and gifts. However, unlike previous holiday seasons, this year consumers tend to choose gifts such as small flower pots, miniature bonsai trees, and health and beauty care products. The market has therefore become vibrant, clearly reflecting the trend of giving practical gifts with long-term use and meaning.

These days, the atmosphere of preparing for Vietnamese Women's Day (October 20) spreads throughout the streets of Nghe An . On streets such as Nguyen Van Cu, Le Nin, Hong Bang, flower shops and gift shops are colorful. Instead of choosing traditional bouquets and flower baskets, this year, many people have switched to the trend of whole flowers, potted flowers, and vases, which are durable flowers that are both beautiful and can be cared for for a long time, making them a meaningful souvenir.

Ms. Le Linh, owner of a fresh flower shop in Quynh Thien ward, said: “Since the beginning of October, we have imported a large amount of flowers to meet the expected sharp increase in demand on October 20. Flower prices have increased slightly due to the impact of storms and rain, ranging from 150,000 to 250,000 VND for a beautiful basket or bouquet, but are still very attractive to customers.”

This year, flower shops have also recorded a clear change in customer tastes. Ms. Nguyen Uyen - owner of the garden "Khong Gian Xanh" on Le Nin Street said: "Since the beginning of the month, we have imported many types of whole flowers from foreign roses, carnations, dwarf chrysanthemums to succulents to serve customers. This year's potted flowers are dominant because of their durability, long-lasting blooms, and after they have faded, they can continue to care for another batch of flowers.

The price is only from 120,000 - 500,000 VND/pot, equivalent to a bouquet of flowers but with longer usage value." According to Ms. Uyen, compared to previous years, customers are increasingly sophisticated in their choices. Instead of bouquets of flowers to look at for a few days and then wither, they want to give their loved ones potted flowers to enjoy, take care of, and create relaxation after work hours. Grasping that trend, her facility has hired more workers to promptly prepare vases and plant pots for customers.

In particular, during this holiday, Phalaenopsis orchids are also very popular. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thang - owner of a flower shop on Ha Huy Tap Street, Vinh Phu Ward shared: "Phalaenopsis orchids have a delicate beauty, symbolizing longevity and the strength to overcome challenges, the image of gentle but resilient Vietnamese women. Although the price is high, from 500,000 VND to tens of millions of VND for a pot of orchid in a vase, on driftwood or ceramic pot, the purchasing power is still very high. Since the beginning of the week, the shop has had to double its workforce to serve customers."

In particular, this year the market also recorded the unique product "Pickleball flower", a new creation combining fresh flowers and Pickleball balls, a sport that is "causing a fever". Mr. Phuong Phu - the owner of a facility supplying this item on Le Hong Phong Street, Truong Vinh Ward revealed: "The idea of making Pickleball flower bouquets was born as a message about health, beauty and confidence for women. Each bouquet includes colorful balls combined with fresh flowers or wax flowers, priced from 500,000 to more than 1 million VND depending on the model. This is the first product on the Nghe An market, but has received very positive feedback from young people".

The creativity and diversity in fresh flower and potted flower designs have made the October 20 market this year more vibrant and “green” than ever. Natural, sustainable gifts are gradually replacing short-term products, demonstrating a clear shift in the aesthetic taste and lifestyle of modern consumers.

Practical gifts, green consumption on the rise

Not only stopping at fresh flowers, this year's gift market has also witnessed the "reign" of practical, environmentally friendly products. At supermarkets, shopping centers or souvenir shops along Nguyen Van Cu, Le Hong Phong, Dang Thai Than streets... the bustling shopping atmosphere has been going on throughout the past few days. Mr. Duong Xuan Tuong, in Vinh Phu ward shared: "Instead of giving fresh flowers, I choose to buy branded cosmetics and shampoos in the supermarket. These gifts are both useful, safe in origin, and have many attractive discount programs."

Currently, retail chains are launching a series of promotions: "20-50% off", "Buy 2 get 1 free" or "Deep discounts when buying in sets", causing purchasing power to increase by about 10-15% compared to the same period last year. Accordingly, the group of nutritional foods, health care products, natural cosmetics, beauty products and smart home appliances are recording outstanding sales. Many consumers are looking for gifts related to self-care, showing sincere concern rather than showing off.

In addition, gifts such as vegetable bouquets, fruit baskets, health care gift boxes or environmentally friendly handmade products are becoming a new trend. With prices ranging from a few hundred thousand to more than 1 million VND, these products are both affordable and carry a message about green consumption. Ms. Le Thi Canh - owner of a chain of stores supplying products such as deer antlers, honey, and ginseng in Hoang Mai ward said: “This year, many customers buy health care products for their mothers, sisters or female colleagues. This is a practical choice, showing concern for women's health and spirit”.

Not only stopping at products, the points of sale also focus on creating a warm and beautiful shopping space with miniature landscapes, check-in corners, fresh flowers and sparkling lights. At a large shopping center in the province, customers can shop and take photos to capture the moment, making choosing a gift an emotional experience.

Overall, the October 20 gift market this year clearly shows a shift in consumer tastes. Instead of chasing after form or material value, buyers pay more attention to practicality, durability and environmental friendliness. Products that can be used for a long time such as potted flowers, miniature bonsai, health care products, natural cosmetics or convenient gifts are dominating, reflecting the trend of practical and responsible consumption.
