Happy weekends
For the members of the Women's Union of Vinh Phu Ward, the weekends are never free, in fact, the mothers and sisters are even busier. Last weekend was the same, 9 members of the Women's Union of the Ward together with the Associations of Block 3 Nghi Phu and 18 Nghi Phu made an appointment to give gifts to some children in difficult circumstances, under the program "Vinh Phu Women - A small action, thousands of good things".

Among the three children who received gifts that day, there was Nhung, the daughter of Dao Thuy Ngoc. Leading us to Ngoc's house in block 18 Nghi Phu, Ms. Hoang Thi Lien (born in 1957) said: "Ngoc's situation is very difficult, her husband passed away early, she has 2 children who are both good students and smart. Nhung is the eldest child, a student at a specialized school, suddenly got a mental illness, the illness got worse and worse, she could not take care of herself, could not control her actions. Having struggled to treat her child everywhere, and having cancer, Ngoc retired early, had to work extra to struggle to make ends meet."
Rushing home from work to receive a gift of 1 million VND from the Women's Union of Block 3 Nghi Phu, Ngoc and her daughter could not hide their joy. This was not the first time this simple joy came to her, but every time it made her feel happy.

For Mrs. Vo Thi Thin (80 years old, living in block 17 Nghi Phu), last Sunday afternoon was even more special. Her two orphaned grandchildren were taken out for the first time by their godmother, Ms. Nguyen Thi Khanh (born in 1985, Principal of Sao Mai Kindergarten - block 15 Nghi Phu). “In the past 2 years, Nguyen Thanh Vinh and Nguyen Minh Thu lost both their parents due to serious illness. My husband and I are old and weak, our pensions are meager, lacking everything. Luckily, through the connection of Ms. Dau Thi Ngo - Head of the Women's Association of block 15 Nghi Phu, Ms. Khanh learned about the two children's situation and agreed to sponsor them for 8 years... You know, the two children are very happy. Khanh's mother said that after taking them to the shopping mall, she would bring them back to her school to play..." - Mrs. Thin said, her voice choked with happiness. The happiness of the two children is probably even greater than that.
Also through the connection of the women's association, Ms. Khanh also adopted her mother Nguyen Thi Hue (62 years old, mildly mentally ill, living alone) for life with a support of 500,000 VND per month; and sponsored Nguyen Thanh Vinh, 11 years old, orphaned with an amount of 40 million VND for 8 years.

And before that, also on the weekend, Dang Thi Nhu Quynh (Xuan Binh block), a 5th grade student, the child of a near-poor family, had the joy of receiving a bicycle at the beginning of the new school year from the program "Vinh Phu Women - A small action, thousands of good things"; elderly women with serious illnesses in block 15 Ha Huy Tap received gifts from the amount of 3.6 million VND from the "Saving Garbage Bags" fund; 2 orphans in Yen Son block found a "Godmother" thanks to the connection of the association and Ms. Tran Hai Luu...
Warm hearts
After merging 4 administrative units (Ha Huy Tap, Nghi Phu, Nghi An, Nghi Duc), Vinh Phu ward became a large area, a multi-colored picture, where bustling urban areas intermingle with traditional agricultural areas. Dense population, diverse occupations, along with nearly 700 Catholic members, the women's union staff is thin, posing a big problem in managing and gathering more than 13,000 members. Unifying the way of life between areas with different conditions and cultures became a real challenge. In such challenging conditions, Vinh Phu women used their enthusiasm and creativity to turn all barriers into motivation, becoming one of the outstanding units in union work.
After returning from the afternoon gift-giving trip, Ms. Hoang Thi Lien (born in 1957) was busy preparing meals and then practicing volleyball to prepare for the tournament. The head of the Women's Association of Block 18, Nghi Phu, smiled: "In the evening, I also practice folk dancing to prepare for Vietnamese Women's Day, October 20. Almost every day I have tasks related to the association's activities. If I don't do them, I miss them and feel like something is missing. As long as I am healthy and can walk, I will continue to participate in the association."

The thoughts of the woman over 72 years old who still drives a car to take care of the association's work are also the thoughts of many other members in the ward. "For me, the Association's work has never been a duty, but a joy and love. I am happy because I always live in closeness and openness, and I love because I get to work with emotional women who always know how to share and help people" - Ms. Le Thi Huyen, Head of the Association of Block 12 Ha Huy Tap confided.
The extremely dedicated and energetic force in each branch has become the flame that lights up the movements. “At the beginning of the merger, I was very worried. But then, through the process of going to the grassroots, meeting the branch presidents, listening to them confide, share, support... I felt like I was re-energized. In the ward, there are many core members who have been involved in the association's work for over 20 years, and have received many Certificates of Merit from the Central Association. Each branch has its own strengths, so we flexibly operate according to the locality and thoroughly apply the "1+1" model, creating a network for branches to support and help each other to develop together. Thanks to that, the movement is much more vibrant and substantial. The diversity and effectiveness of the association's activities have also been recognized by the government, people and superiors," said Ms. Luong Quynh Trang - Vice President of the Women's Union of Vinh Phu Ward.

The spirit of solidarity and support of the “1+1” model has quickly erased the distance between branches, even connecting the people in each branch together. Returning to the Women's Union after 12 years of taking on many roles and positions, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga Son - who is considered by members as a "lever" in all activities, confided: "My point of view is that the budget may be difficult, but people's hearts are broad. Therefore, we always try to spread the spirit of solidarity, mobilize strength from branches and from the community to have both a vibrant movement and a depth of humanity - helping members and children in difficulty. This is also the mission of each member of the Women's Union of Vinh Phu ward".
