Freelance, also known as freelance work, is a trend chosen by many young people. Besides the advantages of time and space, "stepping out of the safe zone" also has many potential risks and pressures.
As usual, a day of Duong Quoc Hieu (31 years old, Sa Pa town) often starts with sipping coffee at his small shop, opening his laptop to edit a few previous photo sets of customers and checking messages to schedule the next photo shoots. After graduating from the University of Transport, Hieu decided to choose freelance work to live his passion. Hieu confided: "Working freelance helps me proactively arrange my daily time without having to worry about pre-determined plans. Being able to roam on beautiful roads and take photos for tourists is not only my favorite job but also brings me a stable source of income".
Bui Thi Phuong (29 years old, Bac Cuong ward, Lao Cai city) used to do many jobs but finally chose to create TikTok content. Phuong spends 2 days a week filming videos , the rest of the time she takes care of her family, edits videos and trains students to film, take photos and post TikTok posts.
Job opportunities for content creators are currently very “hot”, but quite competitive. If you have in-depth knowledge, are willing to learn, and equip yourself with many digital skills, you will create a solid profile for yourself. In addition, participating in multidisciplinary projects and interacting with many different people will bring dynamism and flexibility to your life and give you better and better job opportunities to pursue other passions in the future.
Also choosing freelance work after experiencing some jobs such as business accountant, restaurant cashier, Nguyen Minh Trang (Coc Leu ward, Lao Cai city) decided to switch to freelance graphic design. Trang confided: "If you have experienced office work, going to work in the morning and coming home every day for 8 hours, you will become a "machine", gradually losing your creativity and ability to innovate. When you become a freelancer, you will really slow down, have more time to invest in yourself and develop relationships".
However, in the first months, Trang also encountered financial difficulties when the number of customers did not know much. “The most difficult thing in this job is to be completely responsible for your customers. In the past, if there was a problem, the company would take responsibility and find a solution, but now you have to take care of those things yourself,” Trang confided.
Many young people who work as freelancers believe that what they gain from this job is the ability to think better, thereby developing themselves in a more dynamic direction. Of course, everything is not easy, to become a freelancer, you must have skills, in-depth knowledge in a field and constantly upgrade it. Although working freely in terms of time, without management constraints, it does not mean that you "do whatever you want, whenever you want". Therefore, freelancers must practice discipline and master the plan.
Mr. Nguyen Hoang Hai, a freelancer in the field of communications in Lao Cai city, said: In reality, when becoming a freelancer, especially those who are new to the profession, they may face many problems such as difficulties in finding customers, travel expenses, high competition, unstable income, only receiving remuneration after completing the work without receiving any other guarantees from insurance... Therefore, the problem of risk and fraud is very likely to occur.
If you want to do freelance work, young people need to listen and consult with family and friends, identify their strengths and areas of interest. In addition to ability, you need to have passion, choose a career that suits your strengths and live with the job.
