Construction site never stops

From early morning, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Luan - Commander of the Traffic Construction Corporation 8 - CTCT (Cienco 8) drove an old pickup truck along the 12-XL package of the Hoai Nhon - Quy Nhon expressway project. He inspected the route and directed the construction teams.

For Mr. Luan, like many past holidays, his work is still the same, still attached to the construction site. Having eaten and slept on key traffic projects in Ninh Thuan, Khanh Hoa or the Cam Lo - La Son Expressway Project and now the Hoai Nhon - Quy Nhon Expressway through Binh Dinh, he has never had a holiday or Tet holiday.

“I am from Ha Tinh, on a normal day, I can only go home once every 2 or 3 months. I visit my wife and children for a while and then leave again. On holidays, people can go home, gather with their wives and children, and rest after hard days of work. My family also looks forward to our return. But at the highway construction site, the progress is as tight as a bowstring. The workers are also stuck at the construction site, so commanders like me cannot just rest for ourselves. We encourage each other to work hard to bring the project to the finish line according to the set goals,” said Mr. Luan.

According to Mr. Luan, everyone has “half-crying, half-laughing” memories during the days of eating at the construction site. He remembers most when he was working on a project in Khanh Hoa, there was a time when he did not return home from the construction site for a whole year, when he returned home, his little child felt strange, kept crying and ran to hide behind his mother.

Then, Mr. Luan drove the old car that had been with him for a part of his life, following him along the long road projects from the South to the North to the Song Con bridge project to inspect the construction work. Although the bridge had just been closed right before this ceremony, ahead of schedule, the bridge construction workers still did not rest for a minute.

Under the scorching sun, workers still stick to the construction site schedule.

While working on the bridge deck, looking up from time to time to wipe sweat under the hot sun, Mr. Minh (38 years old, from Ha Tinh) shared that the workers of the construction company on this highway are all from Ha Tinh and Nghe An, and they get to go home 2-3 times a year, the rest of the time they eat and sleep at the construction site. They also want to go home during the holidays, but the company is pushing the project forward so they happily stay and work.

“I miss my wife and children, I also want to go home. Seeing people going out and having reunions, my brothers and I are also very excited, but if everyone goes home, who will stay?” He said, leaning against the bridge railing to rest for a while and took out his phone to look at pictures of his wife and children.

On this occasion, 300 workers of Cienco 8 stayed at the Hoai Nhon - Quy Nhon construction site to work throughout the holiday, divided into 4 construction teams. Currently, in nearly 5km of the contract that Cienco 8 is in charge of, the K98 roadbed has been completed, 60% of the crushed stone has been graded, and 1km of CTB has been paved. This unit is working hard in the coming rainy season, striving to pave the road surface by the end of September and complete the entire contract of the company according to the required schedule.

Take advantage of the precious sunny days before the rainy season

Also in the 12-XL package of the Hoai Nhon – Quy Nhon Expressway Project, Son Hai Group is in charge of 22km from Km 23+500 – Km 45+400. This is the first asphalt paving contractor for the entire project. This unit said that currently, 13km of asphalt paving has been completed. The project progress has exceeded the schedule, but the unit is not complacent. During the holidays, there are still about 250 workers and hundreds of machines working non-stop at the construction site.

Not only the contractor, the Investor, Project Management Board 85 (Ministry of Transport), also had almost all staff on duty at the project site.

Mr. Nguyen Van Huy, an officer of Project Management Board 85, has been closely following the 12-XL package since the day it started. Early in the morning of September 2, Mr. Huy walked along the route to check the progress and construction work of the contractor, and took the opportunity to encourage the workers who worked through the holidays. Mr. Huy shared that the progress of the project is closely monitored by the Board's leaders. Although the requirements have been met, negligence is still not allowed.

“The rainy season in Binh Dinh is approaching, so every day of construction is a precious day, deciding the success or failure of this project. Therefore, even on holidays, we do not want to rest. Entering the rainy season, construction work will be more difficult than ever and it is inevitable that there will be incidents that hinder the project's progress. Therefore, taking advantage of every day and every hour of construction is a must for this project to follow the set goals,” said Mr. Huy.

The Hoai Nhon – Quy Nhon expressway project is ahead of schedule.

After a quick meal at the contractor's camp, Mr. Huy continued to run along the nearly 50km line along the length of the contract package to each other construction site. At dusk, Mr. Huy returned to the commander's house in Binh Dinh ward, An Nhon town, taking the opportunity to count the volume of each contractor to make a monitoring report. When he finished work, it was already night, his phone received a few calls from acquaintances inviting him to sit down and sip a few drinks on the holiday, but he always shook his head.

“We have to be on duty because the progress is urgent. The contractor is working hard, each worker is not resting, now we are still rolling around in the wind and dust, we cannot rest either,” Mr. Huy shared.

According to Project Management Board 85, currently, at the construction site, contractors have mobilized 103 construction teams with nearly 1,400 personnel. By the end of August 2024, the cumulative output reached more than 3,800 billion VND, reaching 49.72% of the contract, 0.17% faster than the schedule.

The Hoai Nhon – Quy Nhon Expressway is over 70km long, passing through Binh Dinh province, with a total investment of over 12,400 billion VND, with Project Management Board 85 (Ministry of Transport) as the Investor.

The project includes 2 packages, package 11-XL from Km 0+00 – Km 23+500 is constructed by Truong Son Construction Corporation. Package 12-XL from Km 23+500 – Km 70+091 is constructed by a joint venture of contractors Son Hai Group LLC + Phuc Loc Group Joint Stock Company + Cienco 8 + Truong Thinh Group Joint Stock Company + 471 Joint Stock Company.
