On the afternoon of July 27, in Ho Chi Minh City, the Gala Concert - Grand Opus Performing Competition 2025 will take place, introducing two outstanding works in the world's classical music treasure, including Piano Concerto No.1 by Frédéric Chopin and Cello Concerto by Edward Elgar.
The concert features pianist Nguyen Bich Tra, cellist Phan Do Phuc, conductor Tran Nhat Minh and the Saigon Festival Orchestra.
Rare classical playground for young artists
According to the organizers, the Gala Concert is a program within the framework of the Grand Opus Performing Competition 2025 (GOPC) - a playground for young classical music talents.
This is the only competition in Asia that allows all finalists to perform with a symphony orchestra.

This year's final round took place from July 24 to August 2, bringing together 150 contestants from many countries, after passing the preliminary round held in China, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and other regions.
Candidates will have time to practice and coordinate directly with the orchestra, in the competition called Orchestra Final - where candidates perform with more than 80 artists under the command of international conductors.
Notably, this year’s competition has expanded to include violin and cello in addition to piano. Contestants are up to 32 years old, including those who have not studied in professional training programs.

In parallel with the competition, a series of intensive masterclasses were held, taught directly by artists and lecturers from many major academies in the region.
The jury includes domestic and international artists such as Nguyen Bich Tra, Luu Hong Quang, Tran Nhat Minh, Tang Thanh Nam, Phan Do Phuc, Hoang Ho Khanh Van, Nguyen Tan Anh, along with artists Ian Goh, Yingna Zhao, Norman Lee, Wilson Chu, Franky Leung, Theophilius Tan...
A notable element at this year's Gala Concert is the appearance of the Yangtze River Concert Grand - a 2.75m long grand piano, handcrafted according to European standards.
The piano has been used in international competitions such as the Tchaikovsky Competition and Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master, and is currently the only piano of its kind being used in a competition in Vietnam.
