Nearly 2,500 scientists, experts, officials and medical staff attended the Hai Phong Respiratory Science Conference 2024

(Haiphong.gov.vn) - On October 4 and 5, at Hai Phong International General Hospital, the Hai Phong Respiratory Science Conference (HAPRESCO) 2024 took place with the theme "From evidence to standardization of practice in pulmonary medicine".

The conference was held in person and online, with the participation of Associate Professor, Dr. Le Minh Quang, Director of Hai Phong Department of Health; along with representatives of leaders of relevant departments, branches, units and nearly 2,500 scientists, experts, officers, medical staff of general and specialized hospitals, universities of the city and provinces and cities across the country.

This year is the 10th year and the 11th time the Conference has been held at Hai Phong International General Hospital. The Conference received 24 reports from 22 reporters who are experts from institutes, military and civilian medical universities... aiming to present and discuss how the health system responds to acute and chronic respiratory diseases. In addition, the Conference also devoted 01 continuous training session to the content of improving practical skills.

Speaking at the Conference, Associate Professor, Dr. Le Minh Quang, Director of Hai Phong Department of Health affirmed: The Conference is a large forum for exchanging, learning, and improving professional qualifications, not only for doctors and nurses in Hai Phong city but also for doctors and medical staff from many provinces and cities in Northern Vietnam and across the country. The Director of the Department of Health hopes to continue receiving support from experts in the prevention of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bronchial asthma in the city, to actively contribute to the work of caring for and protecting the health of people in Hai Phong city and neighboring areas.

According to the Global Association for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), there are 384 million patients worldwide. In Vietnam, the rate of COPD is 4.2%, however, in Hai Phong alone, the rate of COPD is 7.8%. Faced with the worrying situation of COPD, the world has chosen Wednesday, the third week of November as Global COPD Day. Vietnam has implemented the National Target Program for COPD and HPQ prevention, in which the goal is that by 2025, >70% of the population will have knowledge about COPD, >50% of COPD patients will be diagnosed early and treated properly, and the smoking rate among adults will be reduced by 30%.

Hai Phong has participated in the COPD and asthma prevention program since 2013, closely coordinating with the Ministry of Health and Bach Mai Hospital in implementing the national target program for COPD and asthma prevention such as establishing the Steering Committee for the COPD and asthma prevention program of the city; participating in training courses, establishing a COPD and asthma management department, conducting screening and disease detection for many localities. Managing and treating COPD and asthma for thousands of patients.
