According to data released by the General Statistics Office today, March 6, Vietnam welcomed 1.9 million international visitors in February, equal to 90% compared to the previous month and 130% compared to the same period in 2019. In the first two months of the year, the number of international visitors reached nearly 4 million, an increase of 30.2% over the same period last year.

Notably , the Chinese market continued to grow strongly by 77.8%, while other markets increased steadily: South Korea increased by 4.9%, Taiwan increased by 10.1%, the US increased by 15.7%, and Japan increased by 37.3%.

Neighboring markets in the Southeast Asian region grew well, including the Philippines up 99.8%, Thailand up 93.2%, Cambodia up 79.6%, Indonesia up 18.5%, Malaysia up 12.5%. The Singapore market alone decreased 8.2%.

Potential markets in India are expected to grow by 16.3% and Australia by 7.6% year-on-year in 2024.

Markets in Europe continued to grow impressively, especially markets enjoying unilateral visa exemption policies such as: UK increased by 24.1%, France increased by 30.2%, Germany increased by 26.7%, Italy increased by 31.5%), Spain increased by 19.9%, Russia increased by 104.3%, Denmark increased by 20.9%, Sweden increased by 21.8%, Norway increased by 21.4%.

In addition, the Polish and Swiss markets also recorded an increase in the number of visitors, up 54.2% and 14.2% respectively compared to the same period in 2024.

Experts say the effectiveness of this growth is partly due to the Government's visa exemption for key markets. In addition, Resolution 11/NQ-CP on short-term visa exemption for Polish, Czech and Swiss citizens from March 1, 2025 to December 31, 2025 under the 2025 Tourism Development Stimulus Program is also expected to create momentum to attract more visitors from these three European markets in 2025.

The result of welcoming nearly 4 million international visitors in the first 2 months of 2025 shows the positive development momentum of Vietnam's tourism industry after a breakthrough in 2024. However, the beginning of the year is still the peak season for international tourism, while the coming months will be the peak season for domestic tourism.

The leader of the National Tourism Administration said that the entire industry needs to focus on implementing the tourism development stimulus program in 2025 that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has launched to realize the goal of welcoming 22-23 million international visitors this year./.
