Gen Z saves money with the "home coffee shop" trend

Expensive oatmeal lattes no longer seem to be the preferred choice, Gen Z is leading the trend of making coffee at home, both economical and fun.

No more rushing mornings lining up for expensive cups of coffee, Gen Z TikTokers are turning their kitchen corners into cozy "mini cafes" - complete with menus, pastries, and even barista uniforms, all aimed at saving costs while maintaining the same experience.

TikToker @marlenerodriguezoficial posted a video of himself making iced coffee and putting it in a take-out cup, with the caption: "Remind you to make coffee at home tomorrow to save $7 (about 185,000 VND)!".

Meanwhile, @abigailorfino and her friends organized a "coffee night at home" - studying on their laptops while sipping drinks and snacks in a miniature coffee shop right at home. She confidently declared: "It's 2025, we have to learn to save!"

In fact, brewing coffee at home has been familiar to previous generations. But for Gen Z, this trend is not simply about saving money - it is also an opportunity to express creativity, have fun, and connect with the community.

Once a popular ASMR trend with relaxing latte art videos, the "at-home cafe" trend has now evolved into a new lifestyle - where each person creates their own "cafe" experience right in their own home.

Another notable example is TikToker @natebakedthis, who shared a clip of the “cozy cafe” they set up in their Chicago apartment — complete with to-go cups, a pastry counter, and matching uniforms.

In the video, they share: "Once a month, Jay and I turn our small apartment into a cozy cafe for our friends to visit." Unlike many other home cafes on TikTok, they proudly say that "everything on the menu is handmade by us."

Many viewers left comments of praise, calling the idea "both beautiful and heartwarming" and admiring the menu presentation and attention to detail.

Another video by TikTok user @_lesign also caught attention when she designed a custom menu using Canva for her "Café Lil" - including bagels, croissants, mini pancakes, and drinks ranging from espresso to espresso martinis.

Often labeled as spendthrifts or financially dependent on their parents, Gen Z is proving that they can absolutely create their own ways of saving that are both affordable and personal.
