Specifically, according to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), the export price of 5% broken rice from Vietnam on April 20 was fixed at 394 USD (up 4 USD compared to the beginning of March 2025). This price is 1 USD, 18 USD and 4 USD higher than the same type of rice from Thailand, India and Pakistan, respectively.

Meanwhile, 25% broken rice is being offered by Vietnam at $367 (up $2 compared to early March 2025). This price is $6 and $8 higher than the same type of rice from India and Pakistan, respectively, but $2 lower than the same type of rice from Thailand.

Experts say that the reason for the increase in Vietnam’s rice export prices is because the winter-spring rice harvest has ended, so there is not much supply left. In addition, the demand for Vietnamese rice imports from traditional markets such as the Philippines, Ivory Coast, China, Ghana, etc. continues to remain high.

According to the Customs Department, in the first quarter of 2025, Vietnam exported more than 2.3 million tons of rice, worth more than 1.2 billion USD (up 5.82% in volume, but down 15.53% in value compared to the same period in 2024).
