Vietnam women's beach handball team wins Asian championship hat-trick

The Vietnamese women's beach handball team has dominated Asia for the third consecutive time, equaling the achievements of the Thai team in 2013, 2015, 2017.

In the early morning of May 16 (Vietnam time), the Vietnamese women's beach handball team won 2-0 (22-16, 25-20) against the Philippines to be crowned champions of the 2025 Asian Women's Beach Handball Championship, taking place in Oman.

In this match, the Vietnamese women's beach handball team won 22-16 in the first half. In the second half, the Philippines rose strongly, continuously leading to 20-18. The turning point came when Ha Thi Hanh and her teammates played closely and boldly to come back to win 25-20.

In the end, the Vietnamese women's beach handball team won 2-0 (22-16, 25-20) against the Philippines to make a hat-trick of Asian championships in 2022, 2023, 2025.

This achievement is equal to that of rival Thailand - Asian champion in 2013, 2015, 2017. The two other women's beach handball teams that have won the Asian championship are China (2019) and Japan (2004).

But it is worth mentioning that coach Huynh Minh Ngon and his team impressed with their journey of winning all sets from the group stage to the final, similar to 2023.

With this achievement, the Vietnamese women's beach handball team will participate in the 2026 Beach Handball World Championship, as one of the two teams with the best achievements in Asia at present.

At the two most recent World Beach Handball Championships in 2022 and 2024, the Vietnamese women's beach handball team ranked 13/16 and 9/16 respectively.

At the 2025 Asian Women's Beach Handball Championship, the Vietnamese team participated with the main members being Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi , including: Head coach Huynh Minh Ngon, coach Pham Duc Vuong and athletes Nguyen Thi Nhung, Pham Thi My Hang, Nguyen Thi Tra My, Nguyen Thi Phung Linh, Lu Ngoc Trinh, Ha Thi Hanh, Dam Thi Thanh Huyen, Do Thi Nhu Quynh, Nguyen Thi Anh Tuyet, Tran Hai Yen.

Before the tournament, the team mainly gathered and trained at the National Sports Center (HCMC).
