* The live pig market in the North decreased slightly in some places.

Accordingly, the two provinces of Nam Dinh and Ninh Binh both reduced 1,000 VND/kg, currently maintaining the same mark of 50,000 VND/kg.

Traders in the remaining provinces and cities continue to buy live pigs at unchanged prices today.

Today's live pig price in the North is around 50,000 - 52,000 VND/kg.

* Pig prices in the Central and Central Highlands regions decreased by 1,000 VND/kg.

Specifically, after a decrease of 1,000 VND/kg, live pigs in Thanh Hoa and Khanh Hoa are being purchased at the same price of 50,000 VND/kg.

With the same decrease, the price of live pigs in Quang Nam was adjusted down to 51,000 VND/kg.

Currently, the price of live pigs in the Central and Central Highlands regions ranges from 49,000 - 52,000 VND/kg.

* In the Southern region, pig prices remained stable.

Of which, Kien Giang and Ca Mau provinces are at the lowest and highest levels in the region at VND48,000/kg and VND53,000/kg, respectively. The remaining provinces and cities maintain stable live hog prices in the range of VND49,000 - 52,000/kg.

The price of live pigs in the Southern region today fluctuates between 48,000 - 53,000 VND/kg.

* Chairman of Dong Nai Livestock Association Nguyen Tri Cong said that at this time, the epidemic is complicated, so many livestock farmers are afraid of infection and have sold their livestock, putting pressure on the selling price.

At the current price, according to Mr. Cong, farmers are losing 200,000-300,000 VND per pig.

He said: "Currently, the cost of raising pigs is quite high. Only when pigs are sold at 55,000-60,000 VND per kilogram can farmers make a profit."

Regarding the pork market forecast for Tet 2024, Mr. Cong said that the supply is abundant despite the decrease in demand for pig farming among the people. Currently, pig farming enterprises have increased production sharply compared to the same period last year.

The price of live pigs has dropped sharply, but the price of meat at retail markets has not changed much. Pork belly is around 140,000-160,000 VND, spare ribs are 135,000-170,000 VND per kg, and ham hocks are 100,000-110,000 VND.
