Pig prices increase, farmers are excited
Since mid-March 2025, pig prices have increased, making pig farmers in Soc Trang province very excited about increased profits. According to many pig farmers, this year's pig prices are 14,000 - 24,000 VND/kg higher than the same period last year, bringing profits to pig farmers of 2.5 - 4.2 million VND/head (100kg/head), according to Soc Trang newspaper.
The total herd of pigs (excluding piglets that have not been weaned) in Soc Trang province is currently 191,685, an increase of nearly 3% over the same period last year (5,257 pigs). Currently, the price of live pigs is between 70,000 - 80,000 VND/kg. However, the number of pigs sold is quite small, so many households have boldly increased their herds, because the African swine fever situation has decreased sharply, and many localities have not had a recurrence of the disease for many years.
Comrade Dao Van Bay - Deputy Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Soc Trang province said that the current high price of live pigs helps pig farmers make good profits. Therefore, in order to develop the pig herd smoothly in the face of the potential risk of African swine fever, pig farmers need to fully vaccinate pigs against African swine fever and strictly apply biosecurity measures in pig farming such as: regularly cleaning and disinfecting the entire pig farm; controlling and disinfecting means of transport in and out of the pig farm; regularly using disinfectants for pig farming equipment and tools.
