Charity appeal post from fake hospital fanpage - Photo: BVCC
On the afternoon of August 21, Thu Duc General Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Thu Duc City Hospital) announced that the hospital's name and reputation were being exploited to commit fraud.
This fanpage uses the name Thu Duc General Hospital (no blue tick) with the hospital's address, phone number and official website attached.
After the articles copied and reposted the official content from the hospital, this fanpage started posting content calling for charity for a child patient who had a traffic accident and had a difficult family situation. The amount of money called for to treat the child was up to 2 billion VND.
After just over half a day of posting, the article has attracted tens of thousands of interactions. Many people have "fallen into the trap" of transferring donations to the account number provided in the article.
Thu Duc General Hospital confirmed that this is a scam, taking advantage of the hospital's reputation.
Accordingly, the hospital does not carry out any charity activities through unofficial Facebook fanpages. At the same time, it does not authorize any individuals or organizations to solicit sponsorship without public announcement on official media channels.
Representatives of Thu Duc General Hospital recommend that people be vigilant against sophisticated scams on social networks, absolutely do not provide personal information and do not share, especially do not transfer money to accounts led from fanpages impersonating the hospital.
When needing to verify information, people can contact the hospital website https://benhvienthuduc.vn , the official fanpage with a blue tick https://www.facebook.com/benhviendakhoathuduc/ or hotline number 0966 331 010.
