The Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association has just issued an urgent notice to businesses, warning that pepper exported to Taiwan (China) was found to be infected with Sudan IV and must be completely destroyed.

According to the latest information from the Vietnam Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei and member businesses, Taiwan (China) recently continued to discover a number of Vietnamese pepper batches positive for Sudan IV. All of these goods were requested to be destroyed, causing heavy losses to businesses, estimated at hundreds of thousands of USD per batch.

While the authorities of both sides are still coordinating to unify the testing and technical handling process, the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association recommends that businesses "absolutely do not export pepper to Taiwan (China) at the present time, if they cannot completely control the risk of Sudan IV contamination in the product".

The Association also emphasized that exports should only be carried out when there are clear and reliable test results and transparent traceability is ensured.

Businesses are advised to "proactively report immediately when a shipment is warned or inspected, to promptly coordinate with management agencies to handle and minimize losses."
