In the context of economic globalization, high-tech foreign direct investment (FDI) is becoming a key factor promoting sustainable development in developing countries. In Vietnam, Samsung – the Korean technology giant – has emerged as a typical symbol of the strength of this capital flow. With a total registered investment capital of up to 23.2 billion USD by the end of 2024, Samsung not only contributes significantly to GDP growth but also promotes technology transfer, enhances the competitiveness of local enterprises, and at the same time fosters and develops high-quality human resources – a key factor leading the development of Vietnam in the future.
Technology transfer to Vietnamese enterprises
Recently, during a direct visit to An Lap Plastic Limited Liability Company ( Bac Ninh ) - one of 10 enterprises participating in Samsung's 2025 smart factory development support program, delegates were extremely surprised to witness the company's rapidly changing appearance.
It is known that with the support of experts from Samsung, An Lap has deployed a comprehensive system connecting production - warehouse - quality - equipment, helping the factory's intelligence level increase from 1.7 to 2.8. Production line improvements have increased the plan completion rate from 80% to 92%, and reduced errors from 12% to only 0.5%....
Along with An Lap, other businesses participating in the project have also achieved impressive results such as: successfully deploying an IoT system to collect and analyze real-time data, helping to reduce process errors, easily monitor progress; optimizing layout, automating many stages to help improve efficiency...
According to Mr. Pham Van Thinh, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Ninh province, thanks to the support of Samsung, recently, enterprises in Bac Ninh province have approached the trend of the times which is to develop smart, automated factories.
“Samsung is committed to continuing its efforts to contribute to the development of Vietnamese enterprises,” affirmed Mr. Kim Tea Hoon – Deputy General Director in charge of Purchasing Center – Samsung Vietnam.
The Smart Factory Development Support Project is just one of many programs that Samsung is collaborating with the Ministry of Industry and Trade to support the enhancement of competitiveness for Vietnamese enterprises. Through these programs, Samsung is demonstrating its efforts to transfer technology, bringing Vietnamese enterprises to a higher level in the global value chain.
Efforts to train high-tech human resources
But it does not stop there, in the context of science - technology, innovation is considered the "golden key" for Vietnam to rise up, Samsung has for many years always made every effort to support Vietnam in training high-tech human resources. A typical example is the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow competition deployed in Vietnam since 2019, this is a playground to give students the opportunity to apply STEM education knowledge to solve local and social problems. To date, Solve for Tomorrow has attracted hundreds of thousands of students and teachers to participate.

Along with Samsung Solve for Tomorrow, Samsung Innovation Campus is a global information and communication technology education project for young people. The project nurtures young talents with problem-solving skills by providing them with the necessary technological tools to develop in the future through courses on artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) and Big Data...
Launched in Vietnam in 2019, the project has provided training and high-tech capacity development opportunities for tens of thousands of students and teachers.
Initiatives like SIC and SFT not only help the young generation of Vietnam access advanced technology but also build a confident, creative generation, ready to contribute to the community and reach out to the world, in line with the country's development vision.
Attracting and retaining high-tech FDI
Samsung's story is a vivid demonstration of the value that high-tech FDI brings.
Figures from the Customs Department show that, as of mid-September 2025, the export turnover of three groups of products: computers, phones and components, machinery, equipment and other spare parts - with the main contribution of FDI enterprises - has reached nearly 131 billion USD, accounting for over 46% of the country's total export turnover.
But not only contributing to exports, the emergence of high-tech FDI projects can be said to "elevate" Vietnam's position on the world technology map, turning this Southeast Asian country into an indispensable part of the global value chain and an important link on the global technology map.
On the threshold of a new era, with the target of double-digit GDP growth in the period of 2026-2030, Vietnam needs to continue to improve the investment environment, complete infrastructure and policies to attract and retain high-quality FDI. By taking advantage of FTAs and focusing on strategic technologies such as semiconductors and renewable energy, Vietnam will firmly become a regional high-tech manufacturing and export center, bringing sustainable benefits to the economy and society.
With synchronous solutions and coordination from many sides, the dream of becoming a high-tech manufacturing and innovation center of Vietnam in the future will certainly not be far away.
