(HG) - In recent days, kumquat (almond) farmers have been harvesting and selling to traders at prices ranging from 4,000-5,000 VND/kg, this price is 1,000 VND/kg lower than about 2 months ago.
Ms. Mai Lan's fresh kumquat harvest costs from 4,000-5,000 VND/kg from local gardens.
With the current selling price, this is good news for consumers, but also a big worry for kumquat growers. According to kumquat farmers in Chau Thanh A district, the main reason for the sharp drop in fresh kumquat prices is due to heavy rains that reduce the quality of the fruit, the demand for fresh kumquat has decreased sharply, while the supply remains stable, causing the price of this item to drop.
Ms. Mai Lan, owner of a Western fruit warehouse in Hamlet 1B, Mot Ngan Town, said: “Every day, I collect 200-300kg of fresh kumquats from local people, then weigh them at other points or sell them retail. Kumquat growers are waiting for the October harvest, and prices are also showing signs of increasing, but not significantly.” With the current selling price, after deducting investment costs, kumquat growers do not have much profit left.
