In recent days, the cold weather and sharp drops in temperature have greatly affected people's health. In addition to the increase in respiratory diseases, the provincial General Hospital has also recorded an increase in cases of stroke and acute myocardial infarction.

Suffering from symptoms such as weakness in the right half of the body and difficulty speaking, patient B.D.H (69 years old, Thanh Sen ward) was taken to the provincial General Hospital for emergency treatment by his family. Through imaging and clinical tests, the patient was diagnosed with a cerebral infarction. Immediately after, doctors performed intervention to remove the clot and re-open the patient's brain.
Previously, on November 19, the provincial General Hospital also received 3 cases of stroke. Thanks to mastering the techniques of intervention to remove blood clots using mechanical instruments, all patients were given timely emergency care, avoiding danger.
According to statistics from the Provincial General Hospital, during the time of sharp temperature drops, on average each day, the hospital receives about 4-5 cases of stroke and acute myocardial infarction for emergency treatment. Thanks to mastering coronary intervention and cerebral intervention techniques, patients are treated effectively as soon as they enter the emergency room, minimizing sequelae and limiting the need to transfer to higher levels.

Dr. Nguyen Sy Trinh, Head of the Department of Nephrology - Urology - Musculoskeletal, who directly intervened with the team in the case of cerebrovascular accident, said: "Due to the sudden change in temperature, the body cannot adapt in time, causing the blood vessels to narrow, blood pressure to increase, blood flow to the brain to decrease compared to normal and stroke occurs. On the other hand, the temperature drops sharply in winter, causing blood viscosity to increase, blood to easily clot, creating blood clots, hardening of the blood vessels, causing blood to stagnate in the brain, and over time, stroke will occur if not detected promptly. In addition, the habit of eating inappropriate foods in the cold season and little exercise, drinking alcohol and beer regularly in winter causes the amount of alcohol to remain in the blood for too long, causing high blood pressure, increased blood flow and reduced blood viscosity, the risk of stroke due to cerebral hemorrhage also increases."
Through practical research, the elderly, people with a history of high blood pressure, diabetes, smoking, obesity are at high risk of stroke. The disease leaves very serious consequences. Complications related to the heart, pneumonia, venous thrombosis, fever, pain, difficulty swallowing, limb stiffness, depression... Complications of stroke cause patients to be affected in terms of health, psychology, can lead to temporary or permanent disability, leaving a burden on relatives and family.

Doctor Tran Cong Ky - Emergency Department - Anti-poison, Provincial General Hospital said: To prevent and reduce the risk of stroke, each person needs to practice a healthy lifestyle such as: not smoking, limiting alcohol and beer consumption, increasing physical exercise and sports ; maintaining balance in life and work to avoid psychological stress; regularly having periodic health check-ups, at least once a year...
People with a history of stroke need to take medication to control blood pressure well and prevent stroke. People, especially the elderly, should proactively dress warmly when the weather turns cold. If there are signs of headache, dizziness, vomiting, weakness or paralysis, weak limbs, crooked mouth, loss of balance, etc., they should go to a medical facility for timely examination.
For stroke patients, after being discharged from the hospital, the patient and their family also need to pay attention to factors such as: building a scientific diet, providing adequate vitamins, fiber and limiting fatty foods; actively practicing at home with gentle exercises combined with deep breathing.
