Coming to Duc Quang commune these days, the green color covers all the household gardens, creating a fresh and vibrant rural appearance. About a month ago, more than 2,000 households living outside the La Giang dike were submerged in floodwaters. Taking advantage of the alluvial deposits when the water receded, people quickly started production, diligently fertilizing, and gradually "reviving" the gardens. For a long time, building bright - green - clean - beautiful model gardens has become a cultural feature in 23/23 villages in the commune. This is not only an economic model that brings good income to the people, but also contributes to creating rural landscapes, spreading the emulation movement of labor and production. Mr. Nguyen Thai Son (Ha Tu village) shared: " After the storm in early October, the entire greenhouse system was damaged. I spent more than 40 million VND to rebuild, buy fertilizer, seedlings, and gradually reproduce. Up to now, 100% of the garden area has been planted, and many types of vegetables have begun to be harvested ." According to Mr. Son, after the flood, the alluvium becomes thicker and the soil becomes looser, so early planting will take advantage of natural fertility and save fertilizer. Thanks to that, vegetables grow quickly and yield quite well. " On average, every day, I harvest 30-50 bunches of various green vegetables imported for traders in Duc Quang, Duc Tho, and Bac Hong Linh areas... The price of green vegetables is high, so on a normal day, I can earn 300,000-400,000 VND, and on peak days, it can reach 700,000-800,000 VND " - Mr. Son said.
Not far away, Mrs. Tran Thi Huong (Ha Tu village) is also taking care of a vegetable garden of nearly 500 m2 which was planted more than 3 weeks ago. " Although farming is hard work and is often affected by the weather, with many years of experience in production in flood-prone areas, we also know how to choose suitable seedlings, have effective care and pest control measures... " - Mrs. Huong shared.
At this time, Duc Quang commune is implementing a 60-day peak period of new rural construction, focusing on economic development criteria and increasing people's income. The model gardens filled with green represent the spirit and determination of the people in production, creating motivation for the locality to complete the new rural criteria. To suit the weather and soil conditions, people in Duc Quang commune choose to grow vegetables such as: sweet cabbage, bok choy, herbs, jute, etc. Currently, the price of these vegetables on the market ranges from 10,000 - 15,000 VND/bunch. The high price is also a motivation for people to actively take care of and build model gardens.
Under the skillful hands of farmers, the model gardens are systematically planned, neat and clean. Many households have also boldly invested in automatic and drip irrigation systems to help maintain stable humidity and increase production efficiency.
The use of organic fertilizers in model gardens also creates clean, safe agricultural products that are popular in the market.
Mr. Dang Van Tam (Khang Ninh village) shared: " Previously, my garden was recognized as meeting model garden standards. However, consecutive storms and floods for many days caused the garden to be devastated and severely damaged. To restore it, right after the water receded, I planned and rearranged the subdivisions; selected plants suitable for the soil and season. Up to now, the garden has brought in a good income of 300,000 - 500,000 VND/day ". The bundles of vegetables are the result of diligence and hard work, carefully packaged by people in the "flood center" area.
Every day, from the model gardens of Duc Quang commune people, thousands of bunches of green vegetables are purchased by traders and supplied to the market. In the context of scarce green vegetable sources and difficulties in winter crop production in many localities, the diligence and flexibility in production of Duc Quang people contribute to ensuring supply to the market, thereby improving income and living standards for the people.
After the merger, Duc Quang commune had more than 300 standard model gardens. However, due to the impact of consecutive storms and floods, many household gardens were damaged and degraded.
Immediately after the flood receded, people proactively restored production and re-planned their gardens. Up to now, more than 200 model gardens have been planted and covered with high-value winter crops. This demonstrates the efforts and determination of people to gradually overcome natural disasters to stabilize production.
In addition to technical guidance, we have advised the Commune People's Committee to review and develop a plan to support funding, fertilizers and seedlings, creating conditions for people to continue to stabilize production, determined to strengthen the criteria of "Production, increasing income" during the 60-day peak period of new rural construction in the commune.
