Successful intervention for 3 children with congenital heart disease

Recently, the cardiovascular intervention team of Quang Ninh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital continued to routinely deploy specialized cardiovascular intervention techniques for atrial septal defect and ductus arteriosus closure for 3 children with congenital heart disease (patent ductus arteriosus and atrial septal defect) with the support of a two-plane digital subtraction angiography (DSA-Digital Subtraction Angiography), helping the children to restore their arrhythmic hearts right in the locality.

The children Nguyen Ngoc T. (6 years old, permanent resident of Dong Trieu city); Nguyen Nhat M. (21 months old, permanent resident of Quang Yen town) and Pham Nhat A. (15 months old, permanent resident of Quang Yen town) were all found to have atrial septal defect and patent ductus arteriosus since childhood. They have not had any intervention yet, and are taking medication as prescribed. They are now hospitalized to prepare for cardiovascular intervention as scheduled by the doctor.

Test results and diagnostic imaging showed a patent ductus arteriosus and atrial septal defect. Through specialist consultation, the doctors diagnosed and prescribed intervention to close the child's ductus arteriosus.

With a quick intervention time, no damage, the patient does not have to stay in the hospital as long as with open heart surgery. After the intervention, the patient recovers quickly and can be discharged early within 2-3 days. After closure, the atrial septal defect is stable, the parachute is in the right position, the edges are well attached, the path to the superior vena cava and inferior vena cava is clear, and the electrocardiogram is regular.

Most of the interventions and surgeries in recent times were children who were screened after birth at the hospital or through mobile examinations deployed by the Quang Ninh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital in communes, islands, mountainous areas, and ethnic minority highlands in the province.

Mastering modern techniques in congenital heart intervention has helped the hospital continue to widely deploy cardiovascular intervention for patients with patent ductus arteriosus in Quang Ninh province and neighboring areas; At the same time, it helps reduce costs for patients, especially patients who do not have to be transferred to a higher level when there is an indication for ductus arteriosus closure intervention.
