Comments and forecasts

According to Korf Food Products BV (Netherlands), political conflicts and constantly changing trade tax policies are disrupting global trade flows. This causes disruptions in the logistics system, leading to soaring transportation costs. In the context of instability, many exporters are hesitant to fix pepper prices for future shipments.

Normally, commodity prices are determined by the laws of supply and demand and can be somewhat predicted by technical analysis. However, market sentiment is currently putting great pressure on price movements, especially for pepper.

Vietnam pepper prices have recently fallen by about 4%. This is a technical support level that has been tested many times in the past 10 months and often provides support for price recovery. However, the prospect of increasing pepper prices still depends on macroeconomic and trade factors.

A positive signal for the market is that tariff negotiations between Vietnam and the US are progressing. During his working trip to the US, Minister of Agriculture and Environment Do Duc Duy met with two senior figures in the US agricultural sector: Senator John Boozman and Congressman Glenn GT Thompson.

The Minister emphasized that Vietnam and the US can complement each other in agricultural development, instead of competing directly. Vietnam wants to import agricultural technology from the US, while expanding exports of products such as coffee, pepper, shrimp and wooden products to this market.
