World gold price today May 29, 2025 and world gold price fluctuation chart in the past 24 hours
According to Kitco, the world gold price recorded at 4:30 p.m. today, Vietnam time, was 3,281.73 USD/ounce. Today's gold price decreased by 37.33 USD/ounce compared to yesterday. Converted according to the USD exchange rate at Vietcombank (26,210 VND/USD), the world gold price is about 107.57 million VND/tael (excluding taxes and fees). Thus, the price of SJC gold bars is 10.57 million VND/tael higher than the international gold price.
Gold prices fell sharply to their lowest in more than a week after a US federal court blocked President Donald Trump’s reciprocal tariffs, reducing the appeal of gold as a safe haven. A stronger US dollar also added to the downward pressure on gold prices.
Specifically, the price of gold decreased by 1.13%, to the lowest level since May 20. Meanwhile, the price of gold futures in the US also decreased by 0.8%, to 3,268.20 USD.
A US trade court has ruled to halt Mr Trump's tariffs, saying the president exceeded his authority by imposing a blanket tax on imports from countries with a trade surplus with the US.
According to Nicholas Frappell, global market expert at ABC Refinery, the US court decision was a major factor in the dollar’s rise, which in turn pushed gold prices down. Earlier, on April 2, Mr. Trump imposed reciprocal tariffs on many countries, raising concerns about a global recession. However, many of these tariffs were suspended a week later.
The U.S. dollar index (.DXY) rose sharply after the court's ruling, making dollar-priced gold more expensive for investors using other currencies. At the same time, U.S. and Asian stock markets also rose. The Trump administration has filed an appeal, challenging the court's jurisdiction and indicating that the case could be taken to the Supreme Court if necessary.
Although gold prices have decreased in the short term, Mr. Frappell said the gold market still has long-term growth prospects because the dollar may weaken and inflationary pressures will remain in the coming time.
Minutes of the US Federal Reserve's May 6-7 meeting showed officials were concerned about the possibility of rising inflation and unemployment, a scenario that would force them to choose between tightening monetary policy to control inflation or cutting interest rates to support economic growth and employment.
Markets are now looking ahead to US GDP data due out later in the day, along with the core personal consumption expenditure (PCE) index for further clues on interest rate trends.
Meanwhile, spot silver prices rose 0.7% to $33.21 an ounce, platinum fell 0.2% to $1,073.15, and palladium edged up 0.9% to $971.57.
