World gold price today 5/12/2025 and world gold price fluctuation chart in the past 24 hours
According to Kitco, the world gold price recorded at 2:30 p.m. today, Vietnam time, was 3,233.47 USD/ounce. Today's gold price decreased by 95.47 USD/ounce compared to yesterday. Converted according to the USD exchange rate at Vietcombank (26,140 VND/USD), the world gold price is about 102.99 million VND/tael (excluding taxes and fees). Thus, the price of SJC gold bars is 17.01 million VND/tael higher than the international gold price.
Gold prices fell 3% to their lowest level in more than a week after the US and China announced a deal to reduce tariffs on each other. The move boosted the US dollar, reducing the appeal of gold, which is considered a safe haven asset.
According to market data, spot gold prices fell nearly 3%, down to nearly $3,200/ounce, the lowest level since May 1. Meanwhile, US gold futures prices also fell 3.5%, down to $3,228.1/ounce.
"The easing of trade tensions between the US and China, with a 90-day tariff truce, has reduced demand for safe-haven assets such as gold," said Giovanni Staunovo, an analyst at UBS.
Gold prices may continue to be volatile in the short term. However, previous high tariffs continue to weigh on economic growth, which could force many central banks to cut interest rates this year. In addition, central banks could use the price decline to increase their gold reserves.
In a major move to de-escalate the trade war, the US and China have reached an agreement to reduce tariffs on each other, raising hopes of ending the long-running conflict that has had a negative impact on the global economy. After talks in Geneva, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that both sides would suspend new tariffs for 90 days and reduce tariffs on each other’s goods by 115%.
The dollar index (.DXY) rose more than 1% against a basket of currencies, making gold more expensive for foreign investors. "Gold prices may continue to fall due to the strengthening dollar and easing geopolitical risks. In the short term, gold prices may fall to $3,200 an ounce," said Jigar Trivedi, senior commodities analyst at Reliance Securities.
Investors are awaiting US Consumer Price Index (CPI) data on Tuesday for further clues on the Federal Reserve's monetary policy.
Besides gold, other precious metals also fell in price, silver price decreased 2.3% to 31.96 USD/ounce, platinum decreased 1.2% to 983.44 USD, and palladium lost 0.9%, to 967.35 USD.
