World oil prices today August 17
On the morning of August 17, world oil prices continued to decline. WTI oil fell by 1.16 USD to 62.8 USD/barrel, Brent oil fell by 0.99 USD to 65.85 USD/barrel. This is the second consecutive week of falling oil prices, causing many fluctuations in the global energy market.
The main reason is that the economic data from China is not very good, with industrial production falling sharply and retail sales increasing slowly. At the same time, investors are waiting for the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, in the hope of a ceasefire agreement in Ukraine. If successful, oil supplies from Russia could return to the market, creating further downward pressure on prices.
Organizations such as Bank of America and the International Energy Agency (IEA) both forecast that the oil surplus will remain high, averaging 890,000 barrels per day over the next 12 months. Increased production from OPEC+ and South America continues to make it difficult for oil prices to recover in the short term.
