On the morning of April 18, oil prices continued to increase, Brent oil increased by 2.11 USD, equivalent to 3.2%, to 67.96 USD/barrel; WTI oil increased by 2.21 USD, equivalent to 3.54%, to 64.68 USD/barrel.
According to Reuters, US President Donald Trump and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni met in Washington and expressed optimism about resolving trade tensions affecting US-European relations. Reaching a trade deal with the EU could help limit the "destruction" of oil demand caused by US tariffs, said Bob Yawger, director of energy futures at Mizuho Financial Group.
The US imposed sanctions on a small oil refinery based in China on April 16, increasing pressure on Iran amid ongoing negotiations over its nuclear program. The US also imposed sanctions on several companies and vessels responsible for facilitating the transfer of Iranian oil to China, including part of Iran's submarine fleet.
World oil prices rise again
The US's continued tough sanctions on Iran and sanctions on buyers of Iranian oil, while OPEC+ claims to still have the situation under control and can flexibly cut production if needed, are supporting rising oil prices.
Domestically, yesterday afternoon, April 17, the Ministry of Finance - Ministry of Industry and Trade adjusted down the price of petroleum products (except mazut) from 210 - 390 VND/liter, bringing the price of RON95 oil to the lowest level in 5 years.
