Solving the problem of 'thirst' for AI human resources in Vietnam

Tạp chí Doanh NghiệpTạp chí Doanh Nghiệp13/02/2025

DNVN - The field of artificial intelligence (AI) is considered to have made many advances and developments in Vietnam. However, there is still a serious shortage of high-quality human resources in this field. According to the Director of NVIDIA Vietnam Enterprise Customers, the market is currently lacking AI human resources at all levels.

Scarcity of human resources at all levels

In the context of the 4.0 industrial revolution, artificial intelligence (AI) is playing an important role in the process of social modernization. With the ability to simulate human thinking and perception, AI not only supports but also replaces humans in many fields, from healthcare , finance, manufacturing to transportation.

Experts predict that in the next 6-8 years, AI will reach perfection and within the next 50 years, it can completely replace human labor in some industries such as heavy industry, chemicals and production lines.

In Vietnam, the AI field has developed rapidly. According to a report by the Information and Employment Services Center (TITC), the demand for AI human resources is increasing by 10-15% per year. However, there is still a serious shortage of high-quality human resources in this field.

Many universities have begun to open AI training majors to meet market demand. Typically, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Hanoi National University, Danang University, Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology, FPT … are cooperating with large technology companies such as NVIDIA to train AI human resources.

Mr. Vu Manh Cuong - Director of Enterprise Customers, NVIDIA Vietnam.

At the conference on science, technology and high-quality human resources on February 11 in Hanoi, Director of NVIDIA Vietnam Enterprise Customers Vu Manh Cuong emphasized that the market is currently lacking AI human resources at all levels in many stages such as data science, AI operation engineers... Not to mention when AI enters specialized fields, the market needs more data scientists and specialized scientists to be able to apply AI: Biology, medicine, banking, telecommunications...

Vietnam needs hundreds of thousands of AI engineers in the next 3 years. NVIDIA is implementing the Deep Learning Institute (DLI) program with universities to train students and improve AI skills. The program is also taught at large enterprises such as FPT Software, which has issued more than 6,000 Deep Learning certificates in just 4 months.

However, according to Mr. Cuong, to expand the scale of training, Vietnam needs support policies from the State and orders from large enterprises such as Viettel and FPT. He recommends applying the "train the trainer" method to train high-quality AI lecturers, while combining self-study and guidance from teachers.

Promoting AI cooperation in Vietnam

Google Vietnam General Director Marc Woo highly appreciated Vietnam's potential for AI development. To take advantage of this opportunity, Vietnam needs to build a professional AI workforce. Google is committed to cooperating with the Government, organizations and universities to develop modern AI models imbued with the quintessence of the Vietnamese language.

In addition, Google will also support Vietnamese students and teachers by providing free accounts on platforms such as Google Works, Google Space and Google Classroom - AI application tools to help learners access AI early.

Meanwhile, Suk Ji-won, General Director of Samsung Vietnam R&D Center, suggested that the Government should build a highly specialized human resource to promote advanced technology industries such as AI and semiconductors. He suggested that Vietnam should have a policy to attract international experts to train and develop domestic talent. At the same time, Vietnam also needs to improve the investment environment to encourage FDI enterprises to participate in high-tech fields.

With the joint efforts of the Government, businesses and educational institutions, AI can become one of the main driving forces to boost Vietnam's economy in the digital age.
