According to the Ministry of Education and Training's exam results, Hanoi's exam scores in 2025 showed a spectacular breakthrough. While in 2023, Hanoi's education ranked 17th; last year it ranked 11th out of 63 provinces and cities, this year the average scores in many subjects have risen to the top 5, with many subjects ranking number 1.

In Mathematics, Hanoi students ranked second in average scores, after Ninh Binh, and had the highest number of perfect scores (10 points) nationwide with 93 papers. The overall average score for this subject nationwide was low, below 5, while Hanoi achieved nearly 5.3.

In English, Hanoi topped the list of localities with the highest average scores and the highest number of perfect scores (10/10). While the national average English score was 5.38, Hanoi's was close to 5.8 (approximately 0.4 points higher). Notably, out of 141 perfect scores nationwide, Hanoi students accounted for nearly 40%.

Hanoi ranked first in average English scores and also had the highest number of perfect scores (10/10) nationwide.

In addition, this locality is also among the top 5 in average scores for many subjects such as: Literature (ranked 3rd); Geography (ranked 5th); Chemistry (ranked 3rd); Biology (ranked 2nd)...

In terms of the number of perfect scores (10 points) across all subjects, this year the whole country has more than 15,000 perfect scores in all subjects, with Hanoi alone accounting for nearly 1,600 of them. Compared to 2024, the number of candidates achieving a perfect score has almost doubled (last year there were 915 perfect scores).

Specifically, there were 93 perfect scores (10/10) in Mathematics; 556 in Physics; 83 in Chemistry; 7 in Biology; 98 in History; 435 in Geography; 56 in English; 172 in other foreign languages; 9 in Economic and Legal Education; 9 in Informatics; and 2 in Agricultural Technology.

Notably, this locality boasts top-scoring students with outstanding achievements, achieving a perfect 30/30 in the entrance exam. These include Nguyen Duy Phong, a student in class 12A5 at Chuong My A High School, who was the top scorer in the Hanoi National University's aptitude test and the top scorer in the A00 group with a perfect 30/30.

Nguyen Tu Quyet, a student in class 12A9 of Nguyen Gia Thieu High School, is one of the top-scoring students in the A00 group, with the same admission score of 30/30.

Nguyen Viet Hung, a 12th-grade English student from Chu Van An Specialized High School, became the top scorer in both the A1 and D00 subject groups.

Teacher quality is key.

According to the leaders of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, this year the locality has a graduation rate of 99.73%. Of these, 200 high schools achieved a 100% graduation rate, including schools that have consistently ranked lower and had low entrance exam scores for grade 10.

A few years ago, based on the results of the high school graduation exam, Hanoi consistently ranked low, with many students failing to graduate.

Typically, in 2022, Hanoi had a graduation rate of 99.1%, ranking 27th out of 63 provinces and cities. At that time, the Department of Education and Training had to admit that while the city-wide graduation rate was high, it was still low compared to other localities, with many students failing due to failing grades in Literature and foreign languages. 20% of schools had students with all graduation exam scores below the average. Besides the low student intake, the Department of Education and Training recognized that the quality of teaching and learning was a crucial issue requiring attention.

Notably, the exam results for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, which are part of the Natural Sciences group, were also quite low. The average score for Biology was 4.63 points; the average score for Chemistry was 6.27 points.

Speaking with a reporter from Tien Phong newspaper , Mr. Tran The Cuong, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, said that the quality of education cannot be assessed in just one school year but requires time. The Hanoi Department of Education and Training is deeply concerned and determined to implement many solutions to promote and improve quality, focusing on training and enhancing the capacity of teachers so that with excellent teachers and the right teaching methods, excellent students will be produced.

The "schools working together for development" and "teacher-teacher mentoring" movements have been implemented at all levels of education throughout the city. In particular, top-tier schools have collaborated with schools in disadvantaged areas to support and support each other in every lesson, yielding positive results.

Over the past two years, many teachers in inner-city schools have braved the sun and rain to travel back and forth, supporting teachers and students in disadvantaged schools with teaching methods, personalized attention, and assignments tailored to different student groups.

In addition, there is the tremendous effort and dedication of the students and their parents, who tirelessly and silently care for their children's education day and night.

Ms. Nguyen Boi Quynh, Principal of Viet Duc High School, assessed that the movement was very good and meaningful when the school was assigned to a sister school with low entrance exam scores and not-yet-high-quality graduates. In that case, the teachers from Viet Duc High School had difficulty traveling back and forth to organize model lessons, and then they would sit down together to share experiences.

Conversely, teachers from other schools also visit Viet Duc School to observe lessons in various subjects, seeing how different student groups can adapt their teaching methods to maximize each student's potential. From there, schools can share materials, discuss teaching methods, and discuss assessment techniques to improve the quality of teaching and learning.
