In preparation for the upcoming 2023 AFC U17 Championship, Vietnam U17 is having an important training trip in Qatar. Here, coach Hoang Anh Tuan and his team had a friendly match with Laos U17 on the evening of May 19. However, the two teams drew without any goals.
Next up is U17 Qatar. Facing an opponent that is highly regarded for their expertise, the U17 Vietnam coaching staff took advantage of the opportunity and nature of the friendly match to experiment with personnel and tactics.
In the end, the U17 Vietnam team won 2-0 with goals from Huynh Trieu and Cong Phuong.
The match with U17 Qatar also concluded the training period in Qatar of the U17 Vietnam team. After this match, coach Hoang Anh Tuan and his team immediately left for Japan to enter the next training period, taking place from May 22 to June 5.
During the training period in Japan, the team will continue to have three more friendly matches with clubs here.
The training plans have been agreed upon by the Coaching Board and the Vietnam Football Federation, aiming to create the best conditions for the players before starting to compete in the 2023 AFC U17 Finals taking place in Thailand from June 15 to July 2, 2023.
According to the draw results of the 2023 AFC U17 Championship, the Vietnam U17 team is in Group D with Japan, India and Uzbekistan. Meanwhile, host Thailand is in Group A with Yemen, Malaysia and Laos.
Group B is a race between South Korea, Iran, Afghanistan and Qatar. Group C is a competition between Tajikistan, Australia, Saudi Arabia and China.
Teams compete in a round robin format to determine rankings in each group. The first and second teams in each group will advance to the quarter-finals.
The four winning teams in the quarter-finals will advance to the semi-finals and also qualify for the 2023 FIFA U17 World Cup Finals in October.
