In the quiet space of the mountains and forests of Ky Son district ( Nghe An ), the class teaching the Mong ethnic language and writing took place in a lively atmosphere. In the class, the students who are cadres, employees, and youth who do not know the Mong language are taught the Mong ethnic language and writing by the part-time "teachers" and "teachers" of the Economic - National Defense Group 4 (KTQP). Basic understanding of the customs and culture of the Mong people is also conveyed through lively lectures.

Spelling each letter under the guidance of the “teacher” - Major Lau Ba Denh, Deputy Captain of Production Team No. 5, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Mai, Assistant to the People's Mobilization - Security shared: “In the past, when we interacted with the Mong people, the language barrier was a big difficulty. Many times, when I wanted to convey information and encourage people to implement the policies of the Party and the State, I had to rely on an interpreter, which was both time-consuming and unable to convey all the ideas. After attending the training course, I was able to communicate basic sentences. This helped me to be much more confident in my work, making it easier to approach, share and gain trust from the people.”
Following the class, we saw that the class was organized systematically according to the 18-lesson program of teaching Mong ethnic language of the Border Guard, with the enthusiastic participation of 40 students who are officers, employees, and TTTTN directly doing mass mobilization work in areas where many Mong ethnic people live.
Like other students, with TTTTN Vi Van Tuan, a Thai ethnic, when he first came to work at the 4th Economic Zone, Tuan also encountered many difficulties due to the language barrier. Now, after the course, Tuan can confidently communicate with his fellow countrymen. “When I first joined the Working Zone, I felt quite “lost” because I didn’t understand the people’s language. Now, I can talk to children, the elderly, and participate in village and hamlet activities. The class not only helped me learn the people’s language and writing, but also understand more deeply their culture and life, from which I can support and help them in a more practical way,” Vi Van Tuan confided.
Knowing the local language has helped the officers and staff of Economic - Defense Group 4 to facilitate mass mobilization work. |
Ky Son and Que Phong are two mountainous border districts located in the West of Nghe An province, with a large population of Mong people, whose lives still face many difficulties. Not only Mong people, but also people in the district still have a heavy mentality of waiting and relying on the State's subsidy policies. Along with that, language and cultural barriers have hindered the implementation of policies, propaganda, and mobilization of people. This is also a significant obstacle to the development of the district.
In that situation, from 2023 to now, along with opening Kinh language classes for ethnic minorities, Military Economic Group 4 has opened 3 ethnic minority language classes with hundreds of participants. Equipping the "key" of language and culture for the staff, employees and TTTTN is a practical activity, a meaningful action, demonstrating the respect, sharing and companionship of the armed forces with ethnic minorities, further fostering the close military-civilian relationship at the border of the Fatherland.
Lieutenant Colonel Luong Hai Kien, Deputy Political Commissar of the 4th Military Economic Group, emphasized: “The training of cadres, employees and the Youth Union on the language and writing of ethnic minorities, especially the Mong language, has been carried out by the Group for many years. The class not only helps cadres, employees and the Youth Union understand the customs and practices of local people, but also helps them communicate and exchange information with the Mong people, eliminating language barriers, creating closeness and trust, thereby making mass mobilization work more effective.”
The success of the Mong language class at the 4th Military Economic Group is not only a story about the words and voices of the people, but also a testament to the sincerity and responsibility of Uncle Ho's soldiers towards the people. This is the golden "key" to open the door of trust, build a close-knit military-civilian relationship, contribute to firmly protecting border sovereignty and developing the economy and society of ethnic minority areas.
