Tho ethnic people are always conscious of preserving the cultural identity of the nation.
Although the lives of the people are still difficult and arduous, the people of Thang Son village, Nhu Xuan commune always care about preserving and promoting the cultural values of the Tho ethnic group. In addition to the language used daily and the costumes used during festivals and New Year, the village also established a "Tho ethnic folk culture" team to create a playground for the villagers and teach the younger generation the folk songs, dances and dances of the Tho ethnic group. Thanks to that, the mass art movement of Thang Son village is increasingly developing.
Ms. Le Thi Phuong, captain of the Tho ethnic folk art troupe in Thang Son village, shared: "Realizing my responsibility in preserving the ethnic cultural identity, I regularly encourage women in the village to participate in practicing folk songs and dances of the Tho ethnic group. At first, many people did not actively participate, but over time, their knowledge and understanding increased, and they took practical actions to preserve the ethnic cultural identity. Currently, the number of members in the troupe is more than 30. Everyone in the troupe always has a sense of solidarity and together preserves the identity of their ethnic group."
Mr. Nguyen Quang Truong, Chairman of the People's Committee of Nhu Xuan Commune, shared: "The Tho ethnic people in Nhu Xuan Commune live in the villages of Thang Son, Trung Thanh, and Yen Thang. In recent times, Nhu Xuan Commune has encouraged villages to establish art troupes to develop mass art movements associated with preserving and promoting traditional cultural values. Every year, during the Dinh Thi Festival, in addition to organizing the ceremony, the commune focuses on the festival with cultural and sports activities and many religious activities imbued with the identity of the Tho ethnic people. Thereby, contributing to promoting the beauty of the festival to visitors from all over the world, educating the younger generation to love their ethnic cultural identity more."
In Hoa Quy commune, preserving the cultural identity of the Tho ethnic group is also focused on. Every year, the commune proactively builds and implements a plan to propagate and mobilize people to preserve the traditional cultural values of the ethnic group, mobilizes artisans to teach dances and folk songs to the younger generation, and organizes cultural and artistic activities to honor the cultural identity of the Tho ethnic group.
“In the coming time, Hoa Quy commune will continue to propagate and raise awareness among Tho ethnic people about the significance of preserving cultural identity. Partially support the budget for villages to purchase props and performance costumes for art troupes. Focus on implementing the movement “All people unite to build a cultural life” associated with the campaign “All people unite to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas” associated with preserving and promoting traditional cultural values”, said Mr. Do Tat Hung, Chairman of Hoa Quy Commune People's Committee.
Currently, the Tho ethnic group in Thanh Hoa has about 10,000 people living mainly in the communes of Nhu Xuan, Thuong Ninh, Hoa Quy, Xuan Binh... To preserve and promote the traditional cultural values of the Tho ethnic group, the communes where the Tho ethnic group lives have paid attention to propagating and mobilizing people to preserve the national cultural identity; focusing on restoring customs, practices, beliefs, festivals, culinary culture; coordinating with functional units to organize training courses, professional development, and teaching of intangible culture of the Tho ethnic group... Thanks to that, the traditional cultural values of the Tho ethnic group are preserved and promoted in the community. However, with the impact of the negative side of the market economy , the traditional cultural identity of the Tho ethnic group is at risk of being lost. Therefore, local Party committees, authorities and functional agencies need to continue to have orientations, mobilize social resources, encourage people to be aware of preserving and promoting cultural identity, contributing to improving the spiritual life of the Tho ethnic people.
