Within the framework of a series of activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), on April 25, in Hanoi, the Truth National Political Publishing House in collaboration with the Institute for Oriental Development Studies organized a discussion with the theme: "The Final Minutes at the White House: The Minutes of the Fall of the Republic of Vietnam" about the book of the same name.
Deputy Director - Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the National Political Publishing House, Truth Pham Thi Thinh said that on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the country's reunification, the National Political Publishing House, Truth published more than 20 publications and organized many practical scientific seminars and discussions to join the whole country in reviewing the patriotic and revolutionary traditions of our people.
The activities strongly affirm the victory of our people's resistance war against the US to save the country, the peak of the Great Victory of Spring 1975 was the victory of the correct, wise, independent and autonomous leadership and direction of the Communist Party of Vietnam . It is also an opportunity to review the heroic feats of our army and people 50 years ago, to educate revolutionary traditions, patriotism and national pride, especially in today's young generation.
At the seminar, Major General, PhD, writer Nguyen Hong Thai, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Phuong Dong Magazine and PhD Nguyen Cong Dung, Member of the Editorial and Publishing Council, National Political Publishing House Truth shared about the content and unique, special features of the book.
The book “The Final Minutes at the White House: The Fall of the Republic of Vietnam” collects documents, files, and internal minutes from the US government - including top secret notes, Pentagon files, and documents from the US Department of Defense - providing an in-depth look at the collapse of the Saigon government and the US strategic failure in Vietnam.
Part I of the book with the big question: "What did the Americans decide in the life and death moments of Saigon?", the Oriental Development Research Institute has compiled and published 8 original top secret documents declassified by the United States in 2015 with content revolving around the calculations, decisions and actions of the leaders of the American war machine in the final days of the collapse of the Saigon government.
Part II, titled “The Last Days of America in Vietnam,” includes nine articles and pages of memoirs by several high-ranking American generals who were directly present and commanded the evacuation during the final hours of the fall of the Republic of Vietnam. Much information is revealed for the first time through these pages.
These are documents of special value, helping readers better understand the political and military developments of the US and the Saigon government in the final days of the war. At the same time, they prove that the failure of the US imperialists in the war of aggression against Vietnam and the collapse of the Republic of Vietnam regime were historical inevitabilities.
The book also affirms that the victory of our army and people under the leadership of the Party will forever be an immortal heroic epic of people's war in the Ho Chi Minh era, preserved and promoted by today's and future generations in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
