In April, Hanoi puts on a new, brilliant coat of red with a yellow star to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).
On many central streets such as Phan Dinh Phung, Dien Bien Phu, Trang Thi, or around Hoan Kiem Lake, Ba Dinh Square,... it is not difficult to see images of people, especially young people, radiant in traditional ao dai, holding the national flag, capturing meaningful moments with friends and family.
The red flag with yellow star fluttering in the blue sky, along with the large, solemn space here, creates a sacred and proud scene.
Young people in Hanoi join in the atmosphere of the day of Southern Liberation and National Reunification.
“I really like the feeling of walking around Ba Dinh Square these days. Everywhere I look, I see the red flag with the yellow star, a feeling of pride wells up. Every time I check in, I want to remind myself that I am living in a peaceful and beautiful country. But I also understand that, to have peaceful days like today, so many people have fallen. The blood of our brothers and sisters has dyed the national flag red, so that our generation can grow up in peace and completeness,” Dieu Hoa (24 years old, in Hanoi) shared.
"The feeling of walking among the red flags reminds me of history lessons from high school. I think checking in is not just about taking photos, but also about recording my feelings for the country," said Mai Anh (22 years old, in Hanoi).
Not only in Ba Dinh Square, the area around the old quarter,... but also in small alleys, balconies of houses or roadside cafes are also brightly colored with red flags with yellow stars, creating a Hanoi full of ceremonial spirit, imbued with love for the homeland in every corner of the street on April 30.
The small alley in Hoan Kiem district is beautifully decorated with 10 rows of national and party flags. Adults and children passing by all look up, their hearts fluttering.
The image of red flags with yellow stars appearing in an alley on Dang Thai Than Street (Hoan Kiem District) creates a brilliant and touching picture.
Not only young people, many children are also taken by their parents to coffee shops and public spaces to take photos with the national flag on the occasion of April 30.

Simple moments not only help young people preserve beautiful memories, but also contribute to arousing national pride in a close, creative way, true to the patriotism from the small things of today's young generation.
