In the context of modern society, young people are increasingly asserting their pioneering role in contributing to community development.
Young people, full of enthusiasm and intelligence, not only participate in beneficial activities but also step up to lead, organize, and spread initiatives that bring sustainable value.
A prime example is the sisters Tran Thi Tuong Anh and Tran Viet Bach, who have dedicated themselves tirelessly to promoting knowledge and lifelong learning through the Malaysian Wisdom House initiative, part of the global Wisdom House ecosystem.
The Compassionate Bookcase and the House of Wisdom are two philanthropic programs in the field of education , focusing on creating, maintaining, and developing lifelong learning communities completely free of charge. To date, the two programs have established a network of over 25,000 bookshelves (containing more than 1.5 million books) in over 3,200 schools and communities; and created 300 lifelong learning spaces in 17 provinces and cities of Vietnam and 5 other countries (Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and the United States). In October 2023, the program was awarded the Literacy and Knowledge Dissemination Award for Excellence in Practice by the U.S. Library of Congress . |
The journey of growth and community service of talented young people.
Throughout the more than eight years of operation of the two programs, "Bookshelf of Compassion" and "House of Wisdom," Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, the founder of these two models, shared that spreading knowledge has always been the mission and guiding principle for all of the organization's activities.
However, he emphasized that the major difference lies in the fact that the younger generation not only benefits from but also leads, designs, and implements programs, thereby opening up a new model that is dynamic, creative, and has sustainable value.
According to him, the contributions of Tuong Anh and Viet Bach over the years are vivid proof of the potential power of using the intellect and dedication of young people to serve the community.
In June 2021, while studying in Malaysia, Tran Thi Tuong Anh (now a sophomore at Wesleyan University, USA) and Tran Viet Bach (now a 10th-grade student specializing in English at Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted) co-founded the Malaysian House of Wisdom with the goal of bringing knowledge to the Vietnamese community in Malaysia and in Vietnam.
Under the leadership of these two young people, the Malaysian House of Wisdom has developed into a powerful initiative, not only focusing on teaching but also promoting cultural exchange and global knowledge sharing.

Community development through cross-border networking activities.
The programs implemented by Tuong Anh and Viet Bach not only provide English knowledge but also aim to cultivate global skills, helping students step out into the world with confidence and a spirit of continuous learning.
In over 15 free English courses organized by Tuong Anh and Viet Bach, the teaching content spans grammar, communication, debate, and mathematics in English, as well as bilingual journaling. This has helped thousands of students from Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, Ha Tinh, and Quang Ngai provinces access a modern and high-quality learning environment.
Not only do they offer online courses, but every summer, Tuong Anh and Viet Bach return to Vietnam to organize in-person exchange sessions, sharing their experiences and skills with students in various localities. Starting with their first talk in August 2019 at the No. 1 Intellectual House in Thanh Tien commune (Thanh Chuong district, Nghe An province), themed "Small Stories," gradually took the initiative to expand their sharing programs to many other villages and cities. These events were continuously held in Yen Thanh and Thanh Chuong districts (Nghe An province); Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in the summer of 2022; and in Thach Ha, Can Loc, Huong Son, and Ha Tinh City (Ha Tinh province) in the summer of 2023.

Similarly, throughout July and August of 2024, the two sisters continued to organize numerous educational exchange programs at junior high schools in Nghe An province. The events "The Road to School" at Nghi Trung Junior High School (Nghi Loc district) on August 4th, "Toward the Horizon" at Ton Quang Phiệt Junior High School (Thanh Chuong district) on August 9th, and "Adventures Near and Far" on August 16th in Quan Hanh town (Nghi Loc district) attracted hundreds of teachers and students.
In addition, a cultural exchange program with Associate Professor Shannon Gramse from the University of Alaska Anchorage (USA) at Thuy Nga Intellectual House (Tan Ky district) and a seminar "Embracing Tomorrow" (Vinh city) with Mr. Ian Gardiner from the New York Intellectual House were also continuously implemented from August 21-31.
In-depth lectures by professors from prestigious universities have helped the Malaysian House of Wisdom become a shining example of bringing knowledge to rural areas of Vietnam.

The two young people proactively expanded their collaborations with Houses of Wisdom in other countries to build large-scale programs with lasting impact. For example, they partnered with the House of Wisdom New Zealand to provide training in financial management skills, with the House of Wisdom Australia to carry out meaningful charitable programs, and with the House of Wisdom Japan on cultural adaptation and career guidance…
Living and studying in many countries has given Tuong Anh and Viet Bach a comprehensive and insightful view of the world, enabling them to convey authentic and vivid stories to their students. These international experiences not only help them hone their communication skills but also provide fresh, creative perspectives on education, society, and culture.

Tuong Anh and Viet Bach are constantly setting bigger goals for the future. Since 2023, Tuong Anh has been an instructor at the National Education Equity Lab (New York, USA), where she has had the opportunity to work with leading instructors and connect with a global community of international students.
As one of the faculty leaders from Wesleyan University, she hopes to work with her brother to further expand the influence of the House of Wisdom and create even more impactful educational programs.
Viet Bach, as a co-founder, will continue to work alongside her in educational activities. Both aim to not only improve the quality of education in Vietnam but also spread the spirit of lifelong learning globally.
