Overcoming difficulties through livestreaming.

Việt NamViệt Nam19/01/2024

As the Lunar New Year approaches, people's shopping needs increase. Recognizing this, many businesses in the province have organized live streaming sessions on social media, attracting a large number of customers. Behind this encouraging sign lies the effort to overcome difficulties, as well as the concerns and expectations of these business owners.

Attract customers by refreshing your look.

These days, Ms. Cao Thi Nhung (born in 1988), residing in Dong Ha City, and her staff are extremely busy. Besides selling directly at the store, she also frequently livestreams to promote her ao dai (traditional Vietnamese dress) designs to a wider audience. Six years ago, Ms. Nhung experimented with this innovative sales method. With her knack for speaking and creating a lively atmosphere, her livestream sales sessions often attract a large number of viewers and generate sales. At one point, the number of viewers watching Ms. Nhung's livestream reached over 1,700. During the live broadcast, some customers from abroad purchased hundreds of ao dai sets.

Following the positive feedback, Ms. Nhung researched, explored, and acquired more experience and skills to maximize the advantages of livestreaming. At the beginning of 2023, she decided to increase the number of livestream sessions to two per day, starting at 10:00 AM and 7:30 PM. From then on, her and her staff's workload increased significantly. During each livestream session, Ms. Nhung and her four assistants worked almost non-stop. “Besides introducing quality products at affordable prices, we also retain customers with discount programs, lucky draws, games, etc. Therefore, many customers have come to the Nhung Cao ao dai brand. Everyone hopes to 'hunt' for beautiful ao dai at the best prices to celebrate Tet,” Ms. Nhung shared.

Similar to Ms. Nhung, Ms. Tran Thi Lan (born in 1987), residing in Trieu Son commune, Trieu Phong district, has recently been actively promoting livestreaming on her personal Facebook page to sell Tet (Lunar New Year) goods. Starting her business producing, processing, and selling local agricultural products, Ms. Lan's biggest question was: "How can I help more customers in distant provinces and cities, even abroad, learn about the products I produce?" Since using livestreaming, this question has been answered. Ms. Lan stated: "Currently, our production facility has five products that have achieved OCOP 3-star certification. Thanks to livestreaming, our products have reached further and more consistently, generating higher revenue. This motivates us to continue striving to improve the effectiveness of this sales method."

Livestreaming is one of the methods of e-commerce that has become popular in Vietnam as well as many countries around the world in recent years. This model emerged from the combination of e-commerce and social media platforms. Livestreaming helps increase interaction between sellers and customers. With just a phone or computer connected to the internet, sellers can organize a live broadcast, attracting hundreds, even thousands of participants.

Hopefully there will be no more "loopholes".

With its ease of implementation and ability to reach a large audience simultaneously, selling through livestreaming is becoming a popular choice for many businesses. Especially during the Lunar New Year, the number of livestreams increases rapidly. However, not every livestream is successful in attracting viewers and generating sales. Some businesses start off with this new method quite successfully, but then their success diminishes, and they eventually give up.

Understanding this reality, businesses in the province are constantly striving to innovate their livestreaming methods. They are willing to invest in modern equipment and technology. Many dedicate time to researching, understanding, and updating themselves on social media regulations and policies to increase their customer base. In particular, some effective methods to increase interaction on livestreams have been adopted by businesses, such as: giving gifts to those who share and interact frequently; implementing attractive promotions exclusive to livestreams; organizing games and prize draws, etc.

However, according to many small business owners, the key to the sustainable survival and development of livestreaming lies in the seller's reputation and product quality. In reality, when watching and buying through livestreaming, customers cannot directly touch and experience the product as they can with traditional methods. Therefore, the possibility of selling products that do not meet quality commitments, or even outright fraud, is entirely possible. This is also why some customers are hesitant to buy through livestreaming. "Understanding this, we always strive to build our brand and establish credibility with our customers. If customers are not satisfied with their purchase, they can return or exchange it. In some unfortunate cases, we accept refunds," said Ms. Lan.

Not only with customers, but using livestreaming for sales can sometimes put businesses in awkward situations. During the sales process, some customers leave their addresses and phone numbers in the comments to place orders. Taking advantage of this, some unscrupulous competitors quickly obtain the information and send similar or lower-quality items to customers sooner, causing unnecessary misunderstandings. Another situation that livestreamers often encounter is when someone places orders repeatedly but then refuses to accept the goods.

The aforementioned situation, faced by both businesses and customers, partly illustrates the legal "gaps" surrounding livestreaming sales. Therefore, businesses are eager for relevant authorities and agencies to establish strict regulations and sanctions to prevent the proliferation of livestreaming services, thereby contributing to transparency and increasing customer trust in this sales method.
