With the Google Maps app, users can tap the Saved tab at the bottom of the screen to create a list of places they want to visit or favorite locations.

In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), Google said that thanks to a new update to the app, "you can customize saved places with emojis to help you find your favorite places faster."

Google adds faster way to find favorite places using emojis on Google Maps

Like other icons available in messages, users can use food, sports , or any emoji to represent a saved location, according to PhoneArena .

This feature won't work with default lists that come with Google Maps, such as "Want to Go," "Favorite Places," " Travel Plans," "Labeled," and "Starred Places."

Users will have to create their own list or edit an existing list they created. In the video shared by Google on X, a new list called “Favorite Coffee Spots” has been created. Choose an emoji for the list, in this case a cup of coffee, and add a description. Now, just add the places you want to add to the list.

Google is said to have made this change because emojis can convey more information to users than a pin on a map. Using emojis allows users to quickly identify a place of interest on a map.
