Grab tests service for teenage users

(Dan Tri) - Grab is testing serving users aged 13-17 as members of a Grab account for the whole family.

This is Grab's next step in expanding its user base, helping people access quality, convenient and safe digital services.

Grab family account holders can add their teenage family members to their account on the Grab app, allowing them to book Grab services for them or allow them to book services themselves and monitor the entire journey.

This is the first time Grab has introduced a solution designed specifically for teenage users, continuing its commitment to bringing quality, convenient and safe digital services to more and more Vietnamese people.

Grab has been rolling out Grab family accounts in Vietnam since last year and has received great support from users, with the number of Grab family accounts in the third quarter increasing 3.6 times compared to the first quarter. Vietnam is the fourth country in Southeast Asia to test the Grab family account feature for teenage users, after Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines.

Ms. Nguyen Hanh Linh, Head of Mobility, Grab Vietnam, said: “We understand that teenage users have a need to experience daily life and have many places to go every week, from places to study and practice to places to eat, entertain or shopping centers.

With this solution, users aged 13-17 can proactively book a car and experience Grab's diverse services, while also providing peace of mind for parents and guardians as they can easily track, manage and make cashless payments for their children's travel itineraries.

We believe that with this new feature, the Grab app can not only serve individuals and families well, but also accompany everyone on their journey to take care of their loved ones."

The new feature for teen users is designed with the following enhanced safety features.

Driver partner team selection: Grab will allocate rides to driver partners with 5-star ratings and no history of safety-related violations on the Grab app.

Ride-specific PIN: All teen member rides require PIN verification to ensure teen users do not get into the wrong car or driver. When the car arrives, teen members must enter the correct PIN provided by the Grab driver partner into their Grab app. The ride will only start if the PIN matches.

The AudioProtect feature is enabled by default for all GrabCar and GrabBike rides of teen members. AudioProtect will record the entire journey, the recording files will be encrypted, stored and processed in accordance with current laws and Grab's privacy policy.

If no safety-related incidents are reported, the recordings will be automatically deleted after 5 days. Grab is also working on adding generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) to AudioProtect to enhance user safety.

Real-time trip monitoring: All teen member trips have integrated trip monitoring feature, helping account owners who are parents and guardians feel more secure when they can track their children's travel journey directly in real-time from the start to the end of the trip.

Built-in technology will detect if there are any unusual activities during the trip – such as deviating from the route, making unplanned stops, or ending the trip earlier than expected.

Instant Notifications: Account holders will receive full notifications from the time the teen member starts booking a ride until the ride is completed.

Multi-party GrabChat: Account holders and teen members can message driver partners directly through a shared chat group on the Grab app.

In addition to GrabCar and GrabBike services, teen members can also use GrabFood and GrabMart services. To ensure compliance with legal regulations, teen members are not allowed to order age-restricted items (e.g. alcoholic beverages), ensuring a safe and healthy service experience.
