Professor from Nghe An is officially the new Principal of Thuyloi University

(Dan Tri) - The ceremony to announce the decision to recognize the Rector of Thuyloi University for the 2020-2025 term took place on the afternoon of May 6 in Hanoi.

Professor Nguyen Trung Viet became the principal, replacing his predecessor, Professor Trinh Minh Thu, who retired on May 1.

Professor Nguyen Trung Viet, born in 1974, in Vinh Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district, Nghe An province.

In 1993, he was admitted to the University of Water Resources, studying Hydraulic Construction Engineering.

During his studies, he achieved many outstanding achievements, including first prize in the 1996 Olympic Mechanics Competition for Strength of Materials and second prize in the 1997 Olympic Soil Mechanics Competition.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trung Viet was invited to present at many prestigious conferences around the world , and to evaluate doctoral theses at several prestigious universities such as Delft University of Technology - Netherlands, Curtain University - Australia, Aix-Marseille University and Toulouse University, France.

He has chaired a number of projects under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Vietnam (MOST) such as the Nha Trang coastal erosion prevention research project (2 phases from 2013 to 2019) and the Cua Dai coastal erosion project, Hoi An (phase 2015-2018) in cooperation with many prestigious foreign units.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trung Viet was honored to be appointed as a member of the Executive Board of the International Association for Hydrological and Environmental Engineering Research, Asia-Pacific Region (IAHR-APD) and a member of the Executive Board of the Asia-Pacific Marine Engineering Association (APAC).

During his career, Professor Nguyen Trung Viet held many important positions such as Secretary of the Council of Professors of Irrigation and Member of the State Council of Professors.

In particular, in 2022, Professor Nguyen Trung Viet was awarded the Outstanding International Cooperation Award by the Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE). This is a major award given to researchers in Japan and the world who have made great contributions to the construction field in general.

Sending congratulations to Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trung Viet, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Hoang Hiep and confidently assigned the new principal and the school staff with 6 key tasks.

The Deputy Minister emphasized that the University of Water Resources must strongly innovate its training programs, linked to production practices and social needs; build new training majors, and anticipate the development requirements of the green economy, digital economy and climate change adaptation.

The school needs to improve the quality of science and technology, connect research with production; strengthen connections with localities, businesses, professional associations and research institutes, create a sustainable training - research - application ecosystem, linking training with labor market needs.

In addition to requiring schools to plan for training scale development, focusing on quality, the Deputy Minister requested schools to promote digital transformation from teaching to research, student management, and building modern digital learning facilities.

Acknowledging the direction from the Deputy Minister, the new Principal of the University of Water Resources Nguyen Trung Viet affirmed that under the direction of the Party Committee and supervision of the University Council, he and the Board of Directors and the entire university will synchronously implement strategic orientations, focusing on developing core values ​​to realize the vision of becoming a leading research-oriented university in the field of water resources, environment, etc.
