Prof. Dr. Vu Hoang Linh becomes President of the Vietnam Mathematical Society

At the 9th Congress of the Vietnam Mathematical Society, Prof. Dr. Vu Hoang Linh, Rector of the University of Science , Vietnam National University, Hanoi, was elected President of the Vietnam Mathematical Society for the 2023-2028 term.

The 9th Congress of the Vietnam Mathematical Society took place within the framework of the 10th National Vietnam Mathematical Conference, 2023, held from August 8 to 12 in Da Nang .

Attending the congress were scientific researchers who were former leaders of the Association through the periods and 178 official delegates, representing a total of more than 1,300 members.

At the Congress, delegates discussed and contributed comments to the Summary Report of activities for the 2018-2023 term and the direction of activities for the 2023-2028 term, and discussed and agreed to approve the amended Charter, replacing the 1999 Charter of the Association.

The Congress elected a new Executive Committee of 19 members. Prof. Dr. Vu Hoang Linh, Rector of the University of Science, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, was elected President of the Vietnam Mathematical Society for the 2023-2028 term.

The Vietnam Mathematical Society was established in 1966 with the first President being Professor Le Van Thiem, former Vice Rector of Hanoi University of Science. After nearly 60 years of operation, the Vietnam Mathematical Society has made many contributions to the research and teaching of Mathematics, connecting Vietnamese Mathematics with the world Mathematics.

The Vietnam Mathematical Society currently has more than 1,300 members, mainly from 30 universities, academies and research institutes. More than 70% of the members of the Society have PhD degrees. Among them, there are about 80 Professors and 350 Associate Professors.

Over the past 5 years, overcoming many difficulties and challenges, the Vietnam Mathematical Association has still adhered to the goal of quickly bringing Vietnamese mathematics to the level of developed countries in mathematics. One of the outstanding achievements is that the number of young mathematicians receiving postgraduate and postdoctoral scholarships abroad has increased significantly, and a number of mathematicians from abroad have returned to supplement the domestic mathematics research and teaching team.
