Knocking out Dubois, Usyk becomes 'absolute heavyweight boxing champion'

In the early morning of July 20, Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk knocked out his opponent Daniel Dubois (UK) in the 5th round of the "heavyweight boxing super match" held at Wembley.

This victory helped Usyk win the IBF championship from Dubois. The Ukrainian boxer once again became the "absolute heavyweight champion" when he simultaneously owned 4 championship belts WBA, WBC, WBO, and IBF.

In May 2024, Usyk defeated Tyson Fury to become the "absolute heavyweight champion" with 4 titles: WBA, IBF, WBC and WBO. But then, Usyk was stripped of the IBF title and the belt fell into the hands of Dubois.

Before the match with Dubois, many experts were concerned that Usyk (38 years old) would have difficulty moving flexibly when he weighed 103kg - the highest weight of his career.

But the Ukrainian boxer dispelled doubts as he moved quickly and gracefully, not allowing Dubois to take advantage of his physical and youthful advantages.

From the start of the fight, Usyk showed off his trademark defensive counter-attacking skills, with the Ukrainian easily avoiding Dubois's punches before unleashing a series of accurate counters.

Usyk dominated Dubois for three-quarters of the first round and the decisive moment came in the fifth. "The White Rabbit" (nicknamed Uskyk) knocked out his opponent with a right hook before landing a powerful left punch that hit Dubois' chin.

This victory not only helped Usyk unify the heavyweight boxing championships, but also helped him assert his strength against his opponent. In 2023, Usyk knocked out Dubois in a match in Poland, but it was a controversial match as many people thought the referee was biased towards Usyk.

Usyk maintains a perfect record after 24 fights, including 15 knockout wins.
