The exhibition RED: Unlimited Red is taking place from now until November 23 at 224 Space (31A Le Van Mien, An Khanh Ward, Ho Chi Minh City), bringing together three photographers with three different ways of telling stories about the color red.
With the highlight Red: Unlimited , the exhibition invites the audience to enter the emotional world of colors, dialogue with photos and ponder: "What is Red in me?"
Red of life energy and memory
For Hoang Le Giang, an "explorer" who has traveled to more than 50 countries, red is not only a color but also represents the source of life energy. This perspective comes from an interesting fact: Giang is colorblind so he cannot see red in the usual way. He likes to shoot with light, composition and lines before moving on to color.
Usually, Giang determines the theme before taking a photo, but with Red, Giang did the opposite: looking through thousands of photos taken around the world to choose the ones that could tell Red's story.

Red Storytelling Photos in Northern Europe by Hoang Le Giang
“Red in Northern Europe represents the warmth of a small, resilient house amidst majestic nature. Red in the Himalayas represents contemplation and tranquility of spiritual life... I like to take photos naturally, as if a small fly did not disturb anything in the scene,” Giang said.
For Giang, photography is not about taking quick shots to capture beautiful moments, but about looking and feeling for a long time to absorb enough emotions before pressing the shutter. Giang wants to capture moments and tell stories that truly move her.
Unlike Giang, Tin Phung chose a quieter red, the red of everyday life, memories and behind-the-scenes stories. For Tin, the journey of photography is not about finding strange effects or beautiful light, but also about the connection between the photographer and the subject.
Born and raised in Saigon, Tin is passionate about street photography, which he calls “a paradise of light and color.” Tin’s photos are also full of vibrant colors and positive energy.

Coming to Red , Tin introduces a series of photos recording the daily life of a Tuong opera troupe. Tin likes to take photos of Tuong opera because it is associated with childhood memories. When he was young, his mother often watched Tuong opera on the only small TV in the house. Being forced to listen to it over and over again, Tin gradually had an invisible connection with this art form.
“I went to the troupes to take photos and felt a sense of familiarity. Hat Boi has red as its main color, which not only creates a visual impression on stage but also contains the spirit of loyalty, courage and justice of traditional characters,” Tin shared.
Tin accepted to join Red because he believed in the meticulousness and professionalism of Ms. Tran Thanh Thao. He believes that when printed, hung up and interacted with viewers, the photos will live and have their own language, and it is precious to have another playground like 224 Space for those who love photography.
Red of warmth connects photography lovers
For Tran Thanh Thao, RED: Unlimited Red not only opens a new photography space but also begins a journey of connection.
After the solo exhibition 224 by Tran Thanh Thao in 2024, Thao dreamed of having a small corner to hang photos for friends to stop by to drink tea and chat about photos. Then she realized that with her expertise in graphic design and event organization, she could create a more open connection space for the photography community to meet, share and learn from each other.
“I wanted to create a space where people could look at photos, listen to each other's stories and find new inspiration.
I chose Red to symbolize luck and positive energy, which is also what I want to convey to everyone when entering 224 Space's first exhibition," Thao shared.

Ms. Tran Thanh Thao shares with the audience her own perspective on Red
As Leica M11 ambassador in Vietnam, Tran Thanh Thao sees photography as a silent yet intense inner dialogue. She confided: “Red always evokes warmth and passion for me. Red is like fire, vibrant and full of energy.”
With more than two decades of experience in the creative field, although she has only been taking photos since 2018, she has still made her own mark with photos that focus on everyday life, sharing the simple, authentic beauty and delicate moments of existing life.
