In the heart of the peaceful Southwest, Can Tho is busier than ever in November. Thousands of people and tourists flock to the Maspero River to immerse themselves in the traditional festival atmosphere - Ngo boat racing, a unique cultural feature of the Khmer people in the South on the occasion of the Moon Worshiping Ceremony - Ooc-om-boc.
The Moon Worshiping Festival is one of the three biggest festivals of the Khmer people, taking place on the full moon day of the 10th lunar month – the end of the rainy season and harvest season. It is the time when people thank the Moon God for blessing them with a bountiful harvest and a peaceful life.
And among the dances, prayers, and drum beats, the Ngo boat race becomes the center of attention – a symbol of the strength, unity, and trust of the community./.
