On the evening of November 16, the "Fastest Crab Catcher" contest organized by the Ca Mau Provincial Youth Union officially created a bustling opening atmosphere for the series of activities of the 2nd Ca Mau Crab Festival - 2025. Although the award was only symbolic, the stage at Phan Ngoc Hien Square (An Xuyen Ward) was still heated up by cheers when each team entered the "crab arena".

The organizers prepared a 25 meter diameter crab tank, filled it with water, arranged shelters and released more than 40 kg of crabs with their claws tied with zip ties to ensure safety. This elaborate investment made the competition an ideal stopover for visitors during the festival.

According to the rules, each team consists of 3 members, in which each team must have 1 female, competing in 4 rounds with a time limit of 7 minutes. The team that catches the most crabs will win; if the number is equal, the referee will weigh the crabs to determine the result.

The competition attracted 20 teams, with members being union members, youth and local people. The atmosphere of the competition was extremely exciting, vibrant and dramatic. The teams showed their dexterity, quickness and practical experience in catching crabs within the prescribed time.
After the contest ended, the organizing committee awarded 1 first prize, 1 second prize, 2 third prizes and 3 consolation prizes. And, the Youth Police Department of Ca Mau province excellently won the first prize with the achievement of catching 11.4 kg of crab.

The lively atmosphere also comes from the presence of many diverse groups participating – from youth union members, tourists to local farmers. Nguyen Thi Huyen Tran, from Cai Doi Vam commune, shared that she participated with the mindset of "having fun and learning", and said that the crabs with their claws tied "are not as scary as the square crabs at home".
